Osimhen resumes training after forearm surgery

Article arrow_drop_down

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has resumed light training after undergoing surgery on a fractured right forearm. His club Galatasaray confirmed that he has returned to the gym as part of a structured recovery programme.

Osimhen sustained the injury during a UEFA Champions League match against Liverpool in mid March, following a collision with defender Ibrahima Konaté. The forward subsequently had successful surgery in Istanbul and was discharged from hospital to begin rehabilitation.

In their latest medical update, Galatasaray said Osimhen has moved beyond the initial healing phase and is now doing controlled indoor sessions focused on fitness and strength building. The training currently involves gym work and individual exercises, with medical staff closely monitoring his progress.

The club has not yet given a fixed return date, but reports in Turkey indicate that Osimhen is targeting a comeback later this month. April 26, when Galatasaray face rivals Fenerbahçe in the high profile Intercontinental Derby, has been mentioned as a possible target if he continues to recover well.

Osimhen is expected to go through several recovery stages, including light outdoor drills and eventually full team training, before he is cleared for competitive matches. He may also be allowed to play with a protective splint on his arm, similar to the protective mask he has worn in the past after facial injuries.

Club officials and fans see his early return to training as a positive sign, given the importance of the Super Eagles star to Galatasaray’s league and cup ambitions this season. For now, the priority remains his long term fitness, with the medical team insisting there will be no rush back to action without full clearance.

FG Clears Over 1,240 Contractors Under N100m Claims

The federal government has cleared over 1,240 contractors with verified claims under N100 million, marking a major step in addressing the government's payment backlog to indigenous construction firms.
