UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announces resignation
United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that he will resign as prime minister and leader of the Labour Party after losing the confidence of many members of his own party. Speaking outside 10 Downing Street in London on Monday, Starmer said he would step down once the Labour Party selects a new leader, and that he will remain in office only in a caretaker capacity until then. He confirmed that the leadership contest timetable will allow a successor to be in place before Parliament returns from its summer break.
