Putin vows response after deadly Ukraine strike

Russian President Vladimir Putin has vowed to respond after accusing Ukraine of launching a deadly drone strike on a student dormitory in the occupied eastern Ukrainian region of Luhansk. According to Russian authorities, the overnight attack targeted the town of Starobilsk and left six people dead while 39 others were injured. Officials also reported that at least 15 people remained missing following the strike. Speaking during a reception at the Kremlin in Moscow, Putin rejected claims that the building was being used for military purposes. He stated that there were no military or intelligence facilities near the site and accused Ukraine of deliberately targeting civilians. The Russian leader said the attack involved 16 drones launched in three separate waves. He also instructed the Russian military to prepare proposals for a possible retaliation. Ukraine’s military confirmed carrying out a strike in […]

Ukrainian Soldier Survives 225 Days at Front

A Ukrainian infantry soldier known by the call sign “Kenya” has returned from one of the harshest experiences of the war after spending 225 days trapped inside a front-line foxhole near the eastern city of Kostyantynivka. Weak from months of isolation and constant danger, he could barely walk when he finally made it back to his brigade. According to Ukrainian troops, rotating soldiers on the front line has become increasingly difficult because of the growing threat posed by drones. Several attempts were reportedly made to replace Kenya, but commanders could not safely reach his position. The soldier spent two days travelling nearly 11 kilometres through dangerous territory, avoiding mines and hiding from surveillance drones as he tried to escape the heavily contested area. Kostyantynivka remains one of the most critical battlegrounds in eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian forces say Russian troops have […]

Putin defends Ukraine war on Victory Day

Russian President Vladimir Putin used his annual Victory Day address in Moscow’s Red Square to defend Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine and sharply criticize North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato). Speaking before hundreds of soldiers and military officials during the May 9 celebrations, Putin described the conflict in Ukraine as a “just war” and accused Nato of backing what he called an aggressive Ukrainian government. According to the Russian leader, Moscow is confronting a military force supported by the entire Western alliance. Victory Day remains one of Russia’s most important national commemorations, marking the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany during World War II. However, this year’s celebrations were more restrained than in previous years due to heightened security concerns linked to the war in Ukraine and fears of possible drone attacks. Ahead of the ceremonies, Russia and Ukraine agreed to […]

Zelenskyy Expands Gulf Defence Partnerships

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a notable visit to Saudi Arabia in March, arriving in a black outfit and walking across a lilac carpet in what observers described as a carefully staged diplomatic moment. He said the trip was aimed at “strengthening the protection of lives,” highlighting Ukraine’s effort to expand international security partnerships amid its ongoing war with Russia. Zelenskyy’s visit formed part of a broader push by Kyiv to position itself as a global hub for battlefield-tested drone warfare expertise. Ukraine has increasingly showcased its military experience to Gulf states, particularly in countering drone and missile threats, in an effort to build strategic and defence-related partnerships. According to Ukrainian officials, agreements have now been reached with Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Qatar to share drone technology and operational know-how. These countries have themselves faced missile and drone […]

Deadly Russian strikes hit multiple Ukraine cities

At least seven people have been killed in overnight Russian strikes across Ukraine, including five in the central city of Dnipro, where an apartment building was hit, according to local officials. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the assault lasted “practically all night,” with emergency teams still searching for survivors beneath the rubble on Saturday morning. During the attack, British fighter jets were scrambled from Romania after Russian drones were detected near the border. However, the UK Ministry of Defence denied reports that the aircraft had shot any down. At the same time, Ukrainian forces carried out long-range drone strikes deep inside Russia. In Yekaterinburg, nearly 1,600 km from the Ukrainian border, six people were injured after a building was struck. In nearby Chelyabinsk, authorities said drones targeting an industrial site were intercepted. Other Ukrainian cities, including Chernihiv, Odesa and Kharkiv, were […]

Zelensky denies Russia claim of drone attack on Putin

President Volodymyr Zelensky has firmly rejected Russia’s claim that Ukraine carried out a drone attack on one of President Vladimir Putin’s residences, accusing Moscow of spreading falsehoods to justify further military action and undermine ongoing peace efforts. Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, alleged that Ukraine launched an overnight assault using 91 long-range drones targeting Putin’s state residence in the Novgorod region, in northwestern Russia. According to Moscow, the incident could prompt a reassessment of Russia’s stance in peace negotiations. It remains unclear whether Putin was present at the site at the time. Zelensky dismissed the accusation as “typical Russian lies,” arguing that such claims are intended to derail diplomatic momentum and provide the Kremlin with a pretext to continue strikes against Ukraine. He recalled that Russia itself has repeatedly targeted government buildings in Kyiv. “It is critical that the world […]

US-Ukraine Miami Talks Seen as Productive

US and Ukrainian officials have described recent talks in Miami as constructive, even though they failed to deliver a significant breakthrough toward ending the war in Ukraine. Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Ukraine’s lead negotiator, Rustem Umerov, issued a joint statement after three days of meetings involving European partners. They said discussions were focused on coordinating positions around a proposed 20-point plan, security guarantees for Ukraine, and a longer-term framework for economic recovery and prosperity. At the same time, separate discussions were held in Miami between US officials and Russia’s envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, as Washington continues parallel engagement with both sides. In their statement, Witkoff and Umerov said their shared goal was to halt the fighting, provide reliable security guarantees, and lay the groundwork for Ukraine’s stability and long-term rebuilding. The Miami meetings are part of intensified diplomatic […]
