Report shows Nigeria’s economy rebounding strongly

Nigeria’s economy is on a clear recovery path after years of stagnation, with a new report by Quartus Economics indicating that key indicators have recorded their strongest improvement in more than a decade. The study, obtained by The Nation, concludes that “Nigeria is rising” and that the economy is back on track, even though growth still needs to be faster and more broad based. According to the report, Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product grew by a cumulative 8.34 percent between 2024 and 2025, the highest two year expansion in over ten years. This pace also outperformed population growth, which was estimated at less than 4.4 percent over the same period, reversing earlier years when the population was growing faster than the economy. Maduro offers talks as US signals openness to serious dialogue

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has offered an “olive branch” to U.S. President Donald Trump, proposing serious talks on issues including drug trafficking, migration and sanctions after months of post election tension and fresh U.S. pressure on Caracas.​Speaking at a military event, Maduro said he was ready for direct dialogue “with respect and equality” and suggested both countries could work together on security and economic matters if Washington eased what he called “criminal” sanctions on Venezuela’s oil sector.​ U.S. officials, while sceptical of Maduro’s intentions, have indicated Washington could engage in serious talks if there is clear progress on political prisoners, human rights and credible electoral guarantees following disputed elections that extended Maduro’s rule.​They have also hinted that U.S. sanctions could be adjusted depending on whether Caracas moves toward more inclusive politics and honours past agreements reached with the opposition in […]
