ECOWAS Meeting FG Seeks Unified Action Against Border Crimes

The Federal Government has called on member states of the Economic Community of West African States to take unified and decisive action against rising cross border crimes in the sub region. It warned that issues such as terrorism human trafficking arms smuggling and irregular migration no longer respect national boundaries and must be confronted collectively. At a recent ECOWAS forum Nigerian representatives urged stronger cooperation on intelligence sharing joint patrols and coordinated law enforcement operations along shared borders. They stressed that insecurity in one country quickly spills into neighbouring states through porous frontiers and weak surveillance. NYSC to Begin 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation June 10

The National Youth Service Corps NYSC has announced that the 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation course will commence on Wednesday June 10 2026 across all 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory. The Director of Information and Public Relations for the scheme Caroline Embu confirmed the dates in an official statement. The orientation exercise will run for three weeks and will conclude on Wednesday July 1 2026. The online registration portal for Batch B Stream I is expected to open in late May to early June 2026. Nigeria is taking steps to position itself for a bigger share of the fast growing global halal economy estimated at several trillion dollars in value. The federal government and private sector stakeholders are working together to build structures that will allow the country to benefit from halal trade investment and finance opportunities. President Bola Tinubu earlier this year launched Nigeria's National Halal Economy Strategy in Abuja. The policy is designed to help Nigeria tap into the global halal market valued at about 7.7 trillion dollars by promoting standards certification and investments in halal compliant products and services.
