International Friendly: Jordan Deny Eagles With Late Equaliser

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were denied back to back friendly wins after being held to a 2–2 draw by Jordan in Antalya, Turkey. Nigeria came from behind to lead 2–1, but a late equaliser from substitute Mohammad Al Daoud ensured the game ended all square. Jordan drew first blood in the 17th minute through Mousa Al Tamari, who finished off a well worked move to beat the Nigerian defence. Nigeria responded before the half hour mark when captain on the night Moses Simon drilled home to restore parity. Debutant Emmanuel Fernandez then gave the Eagles the lead shortly before halftime, arriving unmarked at the back post to slot in Nigeria’s second. The West Africans looked in control for large spells and created chances to extend their advantage but failed to convert. Jordan stayed in the contest and were rewarded […]

Iwobi, Simon Close To 100 Caps As Super Eagles Target Win Over Jordan

Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon are closing in on historic 100 cap milestones as the Super Eagles take on Jordan in an international friendly in Antalya, Turkey. Only a handful of Nigerian players have ever reached the ‘centurion’ mark, including Joseph Yobo, Ahmed Musa and John Obi Mikel. Iwobi and Simon are now within touching distance of joining that elite group if they stay fit and remain in the plans of head coach Eric Chelle. The Super Eagles go into the clash against Jordan on the back of a 2 1 win over Iran in their first game of the Antalya four nation invitational tournament. Moses Simon and Akor Adams scored the goals in that match, extending Nigeria’s unbeaten run in […]

His goal was not enough to save Diego Simeone’s side from a narrow 3 2 defeat after Real Madrid struck late to win the game. Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke featured for Sevilla in their home loss to Valencia, where fellow Nigerian Sadiq Umar came off the bench to seal the victory for the visitors. Nigeria 3 1 Uganda: Super Eagles seal perfect group record

Nigeria’s rotated Super Eagles side completed a perfect AFCON Group C campaign with a 3 1 win over Uganda in Fès, Morocco. Paul Onuachu scored once and Raphael Onyedika hit a brace as Nigeria finished with nine points from three games. Onuachu, preferred to Akor Adams as coach Eric Chelle made several changes from the wins over Tanzania and Tunisia, opened the scoring in the 28th minute. He finished calmly from a Fisayo Dele Bashiru cross just two minutes after Uganda’s veteran keeper Denis Onyango had denied him from close range. Nigeria had dominated from the start, with Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon threatening early. Chukwueze saw a 9th minute effort deflect off the wall and delivered a dangerous cross that almost found Onuachu, while Moses went close shortly before half time. After the break, Uganda briefly threatened as Rogers […]
