Tanker overturns on Liverpool Bridge as officials avert disaster

A major disaster was averted on Monday after a diesel laden tanker overturned on Liverpool Bridge, outward Apapa, in the Tin Can Island area of Lagos. Videos showed residents rushing to scoop the spilled diesel in jerrycans and other containers before authorities arrived.​ Emergency agencies, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Police, moved in quickly after the videos went viral. Their swift response helped to secure the area and prevent a possible fire outbreak.​ LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Femi Oke Osanyintolu, said all responders were activated once reports of the fallen tanker and fuel leakage were received. Gospel singer ‘Omije Ojumi’ for burial January 21

The family of late gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known by her hit song “Omije Ojumi”, has announced that her burial will take place on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Two killed as tanker collides with motorcycle in Lagos

Two persons have died in Lagos after a tanker collided with a commercial motorcycle, also known as okada, in the early hours of Wednesday. The crash occurred along a busy corridor in the state and caused panic among road users before emergency responders arrived.​ According to preliminary information from traffic authorities, the tanker driver was allegedly speeding and lost control while attempting to manoeuvre through traffic. The vehicle rammed into the motorcycle, killing the rider and a passenger on the spot.​ Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority quickly moved in to cordon off the area and prevent a secondary accident.
