NEMA Repatriates 497 Nigerians from Niger Republic

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons has successfully repatriated 497 stranded Nigerian migrants from the Niger Republic to Nigeria. The returnees were brought back from Niamey, the capital of Niger Republic, through a coordinated voluntary repatriation programme supported by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). They arrived at the border and were received by emergency officials from their respective states together with representatives of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and IDPs, the Nigeria Red Cross and security agencies. NAPTIP rescues 221 victims of human trafficking in Jigawa

The Jigawa Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued 221 victims of human trafficking in the state within two years. The State Commander, Mr Abdulladir Turajo, disclosed this during a one-day sensitisation campaign against human trafficking held in Kazaure on Friday. Turajo said the victims were rescued and reunited with their families following the establishment of the command in July 2023. According to him, NAPTIP has also secured two convictions and conducted 175 sensitisation programmes across communities, schools, places of worship, motor parks, and markets in Jigawa. Angry youths attack politicians at Jigawa road project event

Tension erupted in Tarabu village, Kirikasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa State, on Wednesday when angry youths attacked top politicians during the flag-off of a road construction project by Governor Umar Namadi Danmodi. The event, held to launch a 23.4-kilometre road from Tarabu to Gafta, turned violent shortly after the ceremony. The youths reportedly threw stones at government vehicles, including those in the governor’s convoy, damaging several cars belonging to officials and police officers. Those who narrowly escaped harm included the Chairman of Kirikasamma Local Government Council, Alhaji Muhammad Maji, and Hon. Abubakar Fulata, who represents the Guri/Kirikasamma/Birniwa Federal Constituency. According to witnesses, the attack was triggered by anger toward Hon. Fulata, whom residents accused of neglecting his constituency and failing to initiate projects for his people.
