US lawmaker: Christians suffer most from Nigeria’s violence, urges Trump to act

United States lawmaker Riley Moore says Christians have borne the overwhelming brunt of violent attacks in Nigeria for over 20 years and urged President Donald Trump to take decisive action. Moore said insecurity affects people of all faiths but insisted that Christians are disproportionately targeted. He claimed Christians are about five times more likely to be killed than any other religious group and accused Fulani militias and terrorist organisations of repeatedly attacking Christian communities, pastors and priests, and burning schools and churches, often on holy days. He praised Trump’s readiness to defend Christians globally and described the current moment as a once in a generation opportunity to deepen US–Nigeria relations while confronting the crisis. He acknowledged that Nigeria needs support to tackle insecurity but said President Bola Tinubu’s government must show stronger political will. Moore argued that any future bilateral […]

Fresh killings and abductions deepen security fears in Nigeria

Fresh killings, kidnappings and violent clashes in parts of Nigeria have heightened public fear over security as new intelligence reports warn that terrorist groups are stepping up drone attacks. President Bola Tinubu has again pledged to strengthen the country’s security architecture, saying that defeating terrorism is key to economic stability and national development. In Kogi State, residents of Ejule community in Ofu Local Council raised alarm over the abduction of passengers travelling in a commercial Sienna bus along the Ejule Aloma road. Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers reportedly intercepted the vehicle heading towards Abuja, seized about 10 passengers and abandoned the bus, while security agencies had yet to issue an official statement at press time. The same area also witnessed deadly clashes between armed Fulani men and residents of Ibaji communities, including Ejule Ojebe, where at least four people were […]

ISWAP attacks: Court exonerates DSS over terror suspect’s whereabouts

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has exonerated the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations that it secretly detained and killed alleged ISWAP leader in Kogi, Yusuf Lukman Omeiza, who was linked to a series of terror attacks. The suit was filed by Omeiza’s relatives, Jimoh Yusuf and Fati Mohammed, who sought declarations that his alleged arrest, detention and killing without trial violated his right to life and demanded 10 billion naira in damages from the DSS and the Attorney General of the Federation. Lawyers to the plaintiffs relied largely on claims that the suspect had disappeared after his 2015 arrest in Okene, insisting that security agents must be held responsible. However, the DSS, through its counsel, argued that the allegation of extra‑judicial killing was based on hearsay and tendered documents to show that Omeiza was transferred to […]
