Nigeria edge South Africa in Super Over as Zimbabwe smash records

Nigeria’s U 19 women’s team pulled off a dramatic one run win over South Africa in a Super Over on Matchday 9 of the Patricia Kambarami Cup, part of the Nigeria Invitational T20i Tournament. The hosts kept their campaign alive thanks to a captain’s performance from Lucky Piety. South Africa chose to bat first but slipped to 18 for 3 after six overs. They recovered through captain Mieke Van Voorst, who anchored the innings with 69 from 47 balls, with late support from Siphokuhle Masilela, who added 20, to post a competitive 133 for 7 from 20 overs. Nigeria started their chase slowly and had only 47 runs on the board at the halfway stage. Piety then seized control, smashing 66 from 35 balls, including a crucial 24 run over, to drag Nigeria back into the contest and eventually level […]

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has reflected on Rúben Amorim’s turbulent spell at Old Trafford, saying the Portuguese manager’s ideas simply did not click at the club despite his belief that Amorim will enjoy major success in the future. He said things did not work out as hoped and stressed that the players must also take a lot of responsibility for the disappointing results under the former Sporting CP boss. During Amorim’s tenure, United struggled for consistency in the Premier League and domestic cups. His tactical approach and […]

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have slipped one place to 37th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking but remain the highest ranked team in Africa. The ranking, released on Thursday, reflects movements on the global table after the last international window. The Super Falcons were previously 36th in the world before dropping to 37th, ending a run of several months in that position. Despite the slight fall, they still lead the African standings ahead of South Africa, Ghana, Zambia and Morocco, who complete the continent’s top five teams. Reports link the dip in ranking partly to the team’s inactivity during the most recent FIFA women’s international break. Nigeria had earlier secured qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a 3–1 aggregate win over Benin Republic in October, leaving them without competitive games in the last window. Nigeria’s strong […]
