FCT poll: Wike free to back any candidate he wants – APC
The All Progressives Congress has defended Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike’s decision to publicly back its candidates in the FCT Area Council elections, saying he has a constitutional right to support any candidate of his choice. The party dismissed opposition criticism of Wike’s role as misplaced and politically motivated. APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said on a television programme that Wike, a former Rivers State governor elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, remains a Nigerian citizen whose freedom of association and expression is guaranteed under the 1999 Constitution. He argued that nothing in the law stops the minister from campaigning for candidates in any party.
