Zelensky calls Putin ‘slave to war’ at Munich forum

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called Russian President Vladimir Putin a “slave to war” during a speech at the Munich Security Conference in Germany. He warned that Putin will remain a threat to Ukraine and Europe if he is not stopped on the battlefield. Zelensky said every power plant in Ukraine has been damaged by Russian strikes, leaving millions facing cuts to heating and electricity in winter. He spoke days before the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, which has killed hundreds of thousands, destroyed towns and cities, and forced millions of Ukrainians from their homes. He compared Putin to Adolf Hitler and said the Russian leader may see himself as a tsar but is trapped in his own war. Zelensky added that no one in Ukraine believes Putin will allow Ukrainians to live freely or end Moscow’s aggression voluntarily. […]

Rubio urges calmer US Europe ties as Trump era shocks strain Munich security talks

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says ties between the United States and Europe have reached a defining moment as leaders gather for the Munich Security Conference. Speaking before the meeting in Germany, Rubio said the old world order is gone and a new era in geopolitics is emerging that will force both sides to rethink their roles. He stressed that the United States and Europe remain deeply linked and must discuss how to shape their shared future. The annual forum in Munich comes after years of turbulence under President Donald Trump, whose harsh rhetoric and disruptive policies have shaken U.S. alliances. European partners have watched Washington topple Venezuela’s leader, threaten other Latin American governments, impose tariffs on allies and rivals and even talk about annexing Greenland from NATO partner Denmark. Last year at Munich, Vice President JD Vance clashed […]

Russia hits Ukraine with Oreshnik missile

Russia has used its Oreshnik ballistic missile in a large overnight attack on Ukraine, killing at least four people and injuring 25 in Kyiv, as explosions echoed across the capital for several hours on Thursday night. The strikes lit up the sky and caused widespread damage to homes and infrastructure. This was only the second confirmed use of the Oreshnik, a weapon first deployed in November 2024 against the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro. Moscow said the latest barrage was retaliation for an alleged Ukrainian drone attack on President Vladimir Putin’s residence in late December, a claim Ukraine has denied and which Western officials have questioned. Although Russia did not specify the exact target of the Oreshnik missile, social media footage late Thursday showed multiple blasts near the western city of Lviv. Ukrainian authorities later confirmed that a ballistic missile […]

NATO to Start Annual Nuclear Drill Amid Russia Tensions

NATO will begin its annual nuclear deterrence exercise, "Steadfast Noon," on Monday. The two-week drill involves around 70 aircraft and 2,000 personnel from 13 member countries. Alliance chief Mark Rutte stated the exercise is a "regular" and planned activity, not a direct response to recent Russian air incursions into NATO airspace. He emphasized that the drill, which does not involve live warheads, is crucial for ensuring the "credible, safe, and effective" nature of NATO's nuclear deterrent. The operations will be conducted from airbases in the Netherlands, Belgium, Britain, and Denmark. The exercise occurs against a backdrop of heightened nuclear rhetoric from Russia since its invasion of Ukraine, though NATO officials say they have not observed any change in Russia's actual nuclear posture.
