DSS sues Sowore, X, Meta over anti-Tinubu post

The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a five-count charge against former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, alongside X Corp (formerly Twitter) and Meta Platforms Inc., over posts critical of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The suit, dated September 16, 2025, was lodged at the Federal High Court, Abuja, after Sowore allegedly refused to delete certain posts about the President. The case was filed on behalf of the DSS and the Federal Government by M.B. Abubakar, Director of Public Prosecutions at the Federal Ministry of Justice, along with four other DSS counsel: M.E. Ernest, U.B. Bulla, Dr. C.S. Eze, and E.G. Orubor. DSS Demands X Suspend Sowore’s Account Over Tinubu Post

The Department of State Services (DSS) has written to X (formerly Twitter), demanding the urgent suspension of the verified account of activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore over a post on President Bola Tinubu. The agency alleged that Sowore’s August 25 post, in which he described Tinubu as a “criminal” while reacting to the president’s anti-corruption remarks in Brazil, was capable of inciting violence and undermining national security. In a letter dated September 6, signed by B. Bamigboye on behalf of the DSS Director-General, the agency said the “tweet” ridiculed the president before the international community and had already sparked protests by Tinubu’s supporters. “The said tweet is still in circulation and has attracted widespread condemnation by majority of Nigerians, some of whom may resort to unwholesome activities… thereby creating political tension and threatening the country’s national security,” the letter reads. DSS Arraigns Nine Over Killings in Benue, Plateau

The Department of State Services (DSS) on Wednesday arraigned nine suspects before the Federal High Court in Abuja over their alleged roles in recent killings and violence in Benue and Plateau States. Among them are Haruna Adamu and Muhammad Abdullahi, both from Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. They face a four-count charge linked to attacks in Abinsi and Yelewata villages in Benue’s Guma LGA, allegedly committed on June 13, 2025, in collaboration with others still at large. Two other defendants, Terkende Ashuwa and Amos Alede of Guma LGA, Benue, are charged with reprisal attacks that led to property destruction and the loss of 12 cattle in Ukpam Village.
