Afrobeats star Omah Lay has revealed that he once believed Davido did not like him, a misconception later cleared up before they created their Grammy‑nominated song “With You.” Speaking on the GRAMMY 2026 red carpet with OkayAfrica, Omah Lay said his perception changed after he watched a clip of Davido reacting warmly to his music at a time when he was going through a difficult period personally. “I was in the house, really, and I was going through it when I saw it, and I lost my mind,” he recalled. He admitted he had previously assumed there was tension between them. “It was the fact that I didn’t know Davido was like that. I thought we had a beef. I thought he didn’t like me,” he said. Burna Boy says he reconciled with AKA before rapper’s death

Grammy winning singer Burna Boy has revealed that he settled his rift with late South African rapper AKA privately before AKA’s death. In a posthumous birthday message shared on Instagram, Burna Boy expressed regret that they never got to collaborate or follow through on their plans despite making peace. Their feud began in 2019 after AKA was reported to have encouraged xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa, a development that led Burna Boy to publicly threaten to confront him if they ever met. Marking AKA’s posthumous birthday, Burna Boy wrote that they “fell out over bullshit” but later squashed their differences over Twitter DMs that nobody knew about. Shaffy Bello says Wizkid, Davido, Burna match Fela’s status

She made the comment on the podcast What I Know co hosted by Korty EO. Asked if today’s artists could ever become as big and impactful as Fela, Bello replied that some have already done so. She pointed to global fame as the key measure, saying international recognition is what people use to judge when an artist has reached that level. Bello said that in terms of recognition, power and money, the so called Big 3 and even a fourth star have matched Fela’s impact. She listed Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy and Asake as examples of artists who, in her view, now stand on that pedestal. Her comments came after Fela’s son, Seun Kuti, […]

He added that he does not believe Burna Boy could win a governorship contest in the same way. Sodimu said that Davido’s appeal cuts across music, politics and everyday life. Sampling Fela music doesn’t make you him – Seun Kuti

Afrobeats singer Seun Kuti has cautioned Nigerian artists against calling themselves the “New Fela”, insisting that sampling or remixing his late father’s music does not make them equivalent to the Afrobeat legend. Speaking on the Hits Don’t Lie podcast, he said while some have done good samples of Fela’s songs, it is “crazy” for anyone to claim they are his dad simply because they use his sound. Seun pointed to big Nigerian stars like Wizkid and Burna Boy, who have sampled Fela, noting that this trend of declaring oneself a new version of a late icon seems peculiar to Nigeria. He questioned why nobody refers to themselves as “the new Bob Marley” elsewhere, arguing that such labels show how “wild” things can get in the Nigerian music scene. He stressed that Fela was not just about music but about activism, […]
