Sanwo Olu says Hamzat best to succeed him as governor

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu has described his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, as the best person to take over from him as governor in 2027. He said Hamzat has the experience, capacity and deep understanding of governance needed to lead the state. Sanwo Olu spoke after a closed door meeting at Lagos House, Marina, where Hamzat formally informed him and key stakeholders of his intention to run for governor. Lagos to host 2026 youth swimming talent trials

Lagos State will host the 2026 Swimming Trials for young athletes on March 22, 2026, at the Rowe Park Sports Complex in Yaba . The event will bring together emerging talents from across the state as the Lagos State Sports Commission works to identify swimmers who can represent Lagos in future national and international competitions . The trials are open to active male and female swimmers aged 16 and under, with entries expected from clubs, schools and training centres across Lagos . Police fire tear gas at Lagos residents protesting Makoko demolitions

There was tension in Lagos on Tuesday as police fired tear gas at residents protesting the demolition of homes in the Makoko waterfront community and other parts of the state. Members of the Makoko community, alongside activists and sympathisers, had gathered to condemn ongoing demolitions and forced evictions they say are displacing thousands of people, including women and children. The protesters marched with placards, chanting against what they described as inhumane and unlawful demolitions, and calling on the Lagos State Government to halt the exercise. Anthony Joshua leaves hospital after fatal crash

Joshua family mourns deadly Sagamu crash

The family of heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua says it is deeply saddened by the fatal road crash that killed two of his close friends on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway. The accident happened on Monday near the Makun axis by Danco Filling Station, involving a Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and three others.​ Two passengers, Ayodele Kelvin Olu, 36, a Nigerian British citizen, and Gami Sina, 36, a British citizen, died in the crash.
