Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital after the road accident that claimed the lives of his two friends, Lateef Ayodele and Gami Cina, on Monday, December 29, 2025.
The Lagos and Ogun State governments announced his discharge and again condoled with the bereaved families, describing the incident as painful and deeply unfortunate.
They prayed for the repose of the departed and strength for their loved ones to bear the loss.
According to the joint statement, Joshua and his mother visited a Lagos funeral home on Wednesday to pay their last respects to the two late friends, whose remains were being prepared for repatriation later that evening.
Officials said Joshua was discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, late on Wednesday after doctors confirmed he was clinically fit to continue recuperation at home.
He is expected to keep recovering under medical supervision away from the hospital.
Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State thanked the public for the massive outpouring of concern, prayers and affection after the crash.
They also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what they called his fatherly support throughout the period.
The statement further praised doctors and staff at Lagoon Hospital for their professionalism, dedication and quality care to Joshua and other injured victims.
The joint statement was signed by Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and Ogun State Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade.
Both officials emphasised continued solidarity with the victims’ families and with all those affected by the tragedy.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has the power to investigate consumers’ complaints against banks and other financial institutions.
