Tight security as Tinubu heads to NASS to present 2026 budget

Security has been significantly tightened around the National Assembly Complex in Abuja as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prepares to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives. Extra armed policemen have been deployed to all main entry points, including the MOPOL Gate, the Villa Gate and the Annex Gates.​ Access to the complex has been strictly restricted to accredited persons. Those without proper accreditation are being turned back, although the screening and accreditation process has so far been reported as smooth and without incident.​ The usual busy atmosphere at the National Assembly has largely disappeared due to the movement restrictions. Supreme Court Restores Death Sentence For Maryam Sanda

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed the death sentence imposed on Maryam Sanda for the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, and voided the federal government’s decision that had reduced her punishment to 12 years in prison. FG, ASUU Resume Talks Over 40% Pay Rise

The Federal Government has proposed a 40 per cent salary increase for members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities as both sides prepare to resume negotiations in Abuja. The talks will be led by a government team headed by Yayale Ahmed, with ASUU’s leadership returning to the table after internal consultations.​ ASUU’s National Executive Council met in Abuja on Sunday and agreed that the union should continue discussions with the government. Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has been released after hours of questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja. Appeal Court strikes out Nnamdi Kanu’s rights violation case

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has struck out an appeal by convicted IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, ruling that his case alleging violations of fundamental rights by the Director General of the DSS and the Attorney-General of the Federation lacked merit and had become academic.
