Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has been released after hours of questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja. Posting on his X account early Saturday, Malami confirmed that he had left EFCC custody and was scheduled to return for another meeting with investigators.
He said the anti-graft agency questioned him on issues related to his time in office and that he was cooperating fully with the process. Malami reiterated that he had nothing to hide and restated his pledge to honour every EFCC invitation as a law-abiding citizen.
The former minister had earlier disclosed that the EFCC invited him to provide clarifications on certain matters, widely believed to be linked to decisions taken during the Buhari administration, including asset recovery and contract approvals. He has consistently maintained that his eight years in office were guided by transparency, accountability and the rule of law.
EFCC officials have yet to publicly detail the specific allegations or cases under review, saying only that they need “certain information” from the former AGF. Malami, for his part, has promised to keep Nigerians informed about key developments as the investigation continues.
