Leipzig Sign Romulo to Replace Sesko

RB Leipzig have signed Brazilian striker Romulo from Turkish club Goztepe as a replacement for Benjamin Sesko, who recently joined Manchester United. The 23-year-old Romulo signed a deal until 2030, with the transfer reportedly worth €25 million ($29.2 million) including bonuses. Leipzig needed a new striker after Sesko’s €85 million move to United. The Bundesliga side finished seventh last season, missing out on European competitions for the first time since reaching the top flight. This summer, the club has undergone a major rebuild under Jurgen Klopp, who is now Red Bull’s global head of football. New signings include winger Johan Bakayoko and midfielder Arthur Vermeeren. The team will also start the new season with manager Ole Werner at the helm.

National U-16 Championship to Honour Late Football Legend Sam Okwaraji

Thirty-six years after the tragic death of Nigerian football star Dr. Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji during a World Cup qualifier against Angola, a new nationwide tournament will keep his legacy alive and inspire young players. The Sam Okwaraji U-16 Soccer Championship, themed “Patriotism, Education & Soccer”, will begin on November 8, 2025, with the goal of discovering and nurturing grassroots football talent across the country. Announcing the event in Abuja, Senator Osita Izunaso, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Capital Market and head of the organising committee, hailed Okwaraji as “a symbol of patriotism, sacrifice, and national pride” who died wearing the national colours. Okwaraji, born in Orlu, Imo State, on May 19, 1964, was celebrated not only for his football skills but also for his academic achievements — earning a first-class law degree and a master’s with distinction from the […]

Tottenham Eye Crystal Palace Star Eberechi Eze Amid Injury Crisis

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly exploring a deal for Crystal Palace and England forward Eberechi Eze as they look to reinforce their attacking options following a series of setbacks. Manager Thomas Frank is keen to strengthen the final third after playmaker James Maddison was ruled out for most of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury. The club also bid farewell to South Korea star Son Heung-min, who departed earlier this month after a decade of service that saw him score 173 goals in 454 appearances. Meanwhile, Dejan Kulusevski remains sidelined following knee surgery. Eze, who netted 14 goals in all competitions for Palace last season — including the decisive strike in their FA Cup final win over Manchester City — is attracting serious interest from Spurs. Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup clash with Paris St-Germain, Frank avoided […]

Alexander Isak Pushes for Liverpool Move Despite Newcastle’s Stance

Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle United appears increasingly uncertain as the 25-year-old striker remains determined to complete a move to Liverpool before the summer transfer deadline. According to a report from The Athletic on Tuesday, Isak is “adamant” he will never play for Newcastle again. While BBC Sport has not been able to verify this claim, sources indicate the Swedish forward is resolute in his ambition to join the Premier League champions before the 1 September deadline. Liverpool’s most recent offer — a staggering £110 million bid on 1 August — was rejected by the Magpies. Following the rejection, Liverpool suggested they might walk away from the deal. However, the Reds have continued their recruitment drive, turning attention to Crystal Palace and England centre-back Marc Guehi, also 25. Speaking after Newcastle’s pre-season friendly defeat to Atletico Madrid, manager Eddie Howe […]

CAS Upholds UEFA Ruling, Sends Crystal Palace to Conference League

Crystal Palace will compete in the UEFA Conference League this season after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld UEFA’s decision to demote the club over breaches of multi-club ownership rules. In its ruling on Monday, CAS confirmed that Palace’s Europa League spot will instead go to Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest. The case centred on Eagle Football Holdings founder John Textor, who CAS found held shares and board positions in both Crystal Palace and Olympique Lyonnais (OL) at the time of UEFA’s eligibility assessment. OL have also qualified for the Europa League. Palace earned their place in the competition by winning the FA Cup in May but were ruled ineligible on July 11. The club argued that Forest or Lyon should be excluded instead, but CAS ruled that UEFA regulations “are clear and do not provide flexibility” for […]

Tottenham in talks for £50m+ Man City winger Savinho

Tottenham Hotspur have entered discussions with Manchester City over a potential deal for Brazil winger Savinho, with talks taking place in recent days. The 21-year-old was a key figure for City last season, but uncertainty over his future has emerged following the club’s summer signing of France winger Rayan Cherki from Lyon. Negotiations remain at an early stage, and sources suggest City are reluctant to sell. Any deal would require an offer exceeding £50m — significantly more than the £30.8m City paid French side Troyes for Savinho just a year ago. Savinho made 48 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring three goals, but his playing time could be affected by new competition for attacking spots. Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank is keen to strengthen his forward options after the recent departure of Son Heung-min to MLS side LAFC. Spurs […]

Zabarnyi set for £57.1m PSG move from Bournemouth

Bournemouth defender Illia Zabarnyi is close to completing a high-profile transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, with the 22-year-old Ukraine international already in Paris for a medical. Personal terms on a five-year deal have been agreed, and the European champions are finalising the details of a £54.5m initial fee plus £2.6m in performance-related add-ons. The move marks Bournemouth’s third major defensive sale this transfer window, following Dean Huijsen’s £50m switch to Real Madrid and Milos Kerkez’s £40m move to Liverpool. While the departures leave a significant gap at the back, they also generate substantial profit for the Cherries. Zabarnyi joined Bournemouth in 2023 from Dynamo Kyiv for a reported £24m, and his development has attracted Europe’s elite. The Cherries have already lined up his replacement, with Lille’s Bafodé Diakité set to arrive for an initial £30m, potentially rising to £34m with add-ons. […]

Grealish joins Everton on loan from Manchester City

Everton have agreed a season-long loan deal for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish, offering the England international a fresh start after a difficult spell at the Etihad. The 29-year-old, once the most expensive British footballer, has struggled for playing time and was notably left out of City’s squad for both the final Premier League match last season and the Club World Cup. Sources confirm that the two clubs have finalised terms, with Grealish — who reportedly earns £300,000-a-week — set to undergo a medical shortly. His £100m move from Aston Villa in August 2021 brought Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and a Champions League medal, but last season saw him limited to just seven league starts as City ended the year without silverware. Manager Pep Guardiola benched Grealish in the FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace, favouring teenage […]

Crystal Palace drop to Conference League after appeal loss

Crystal Palace’s European dreams took a hit as the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld Uefa’s decision to demote them from the Europa League to the Conference League. The ruling simultaneously confirmed Nottingham Forest’s promotion to the Europa League, filling the spot Palace vacated. The decision landed just a day after Palace’s high point — beating Liverpool on penalties to win the Community Shield at Wembley. But the celebration quickly gave way to disappointment as the consequences of breaching Uefa’s multi-club ownership rules caught up with them. The issue centred on American businessman John Textor, who owned 43% of Palace until June and is majority owner of Lyon, another Europa League qualifier. Uefa regulations forbid clubs with overlapping ownership influence from competing in the same European tournament. Palace had until 1 March 2025 to restructure and prove compliance, but missed […]

Israeli Hostage Families Urge Nationwide Strike

Families of Israeli hostages held in Gaza are urging a nationwide general strike next Sunday to protest the government’s decision to expand military operations and seize Gaza City. “We are shutting down the country to save the soldiers and the hostages,” said relatives gathered in Tel Aviv, joined by the October 7 Council, which represents families of soldiers killed at the start of the war. Grassroots Push Gains Momentum Organizers say the strike will begin as a citizen-led movement, driven by private companies and individuals taking the day off to disrupt the economy. The October 7 Council claims hundreds of companies and thousands of citizens have already pledged participation. Israel’s largest trade union, Histadrut, has yet to commit but will meet with the families on Monday. Anat Angrest, whose son Matan is among the hostages, appealed directly to industry leaders: […]
