Wolverhampton Wanderers have sacked head coach Vitor Pereira after the team failed to win any of their first ten matches of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The club announced the decision on Sunday, following a poor run that saw Wolves lose eight matches and draw two, leaving them at the bottom of the league table and eight points from safety.
In a statement released on the club’s website, Wolves said the results and performances this season “have fallen below acceptable standards.”
“Upon his arrival at Molineux last December, Pereira and his coaches made an immediate impact, guiding the team to a strong second half of the Premier League campaign,” the statement read. “However, results and performances this term have fallen below acceptable standards, and as a result, a change in leadership was deemed necessary.”
Pereira’s dismissal also includes his entire backroom team of eight staff members. The club confirmed that Under-21 head coach James Collins and Under-18 manager Richard Walker will oversee first-team training while a search for a permanent replacement is underway.
Wolves’ executive chairman, Jeff Shi, thanked Pereira and his staff for their contributions.
“Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful,” Shi said. “Unfortunately, the start to this season has been disappointing. Despite our strong desire to give the head coach more time to improve results, we have reached a point where a change was necessary.”
He added, “We thank Vitor and his staff for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future.”
The club has not given a timeline for appointing a new head coach, as Wolves aim to turn their season around after a difficult start to the campaign.

Abubakar tried to secure M.K.O. Abiola’s release before his death
Former Nigerian President Abdulsalami Abubakar has revealed that he actively tried to secure the release of pro-democracy leader M.K.O. Abiola before Abiola's sudden death in detention on July 7, 1998. Abiola was the apparent winner of Nigeria's June 12, 1993 presidential election, which was later annulled by the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. He was arrested and held in detention for more than four years by the military government of General Sani Abacha. According to a new book by Abdulsalami Abubakar, American officials who were with Abiola when he died were initially denied access to him before being allowed to meet with him. On July 7, 1998, just days before Abiola's scheduled release from prison, he collapsed during a meeting with a U.S. delegation and died in a medical center. Various theories emerged after Abiola's death, including claims that […]

Bandits flaunt cash online using TikTok livestreams and giveaways
Armed bandits and criminal hoodlums in Nigeria are increasingly using social media platforms, especially TikTok, to flaunt cash, hold livestreams, and fund giveaways to attract attention and build online followings. Investigators say these "cash-flaunting bandits" use money from criminal activities to stockpile arms and ammunition, buy food, and organise social gatherings in forest hideouts. The same funds are also poured into their digital presence, where they display large amounts of cash, luxury items and flashy lifestyles through short videos and live streams. These bandits run regular livestreams on TikTok, where they encourage viewers to join giveaways, follow their accounts, and engage with their content. Some of them have become known online for their flamboyant displays of wealth, even as they remain linked to kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes. The use of social media by these criminal groups has […]

Trump’s name removed from Washington arts centre after court order
President Donald Trump's name has been taken down from the front of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., following a federal court order. Workers began removing the name early Saturday morning, less than six months after it was first installed on the historic venue. The work started around 1:20 a.m. local time, hours after the Department of Justice said the government would miss a court-ordered deadline to take Mr Trump's name off the building. A U.S. District Court judge ruled last month that adding Trump's name to the facade of the Kennedy Center was unlawful, because the institution cannot be renamed without approval from Congress. Judge Christopher Cooper ordered the removal by Friday, June 12, 2026. Crews set up scaffolding on Friday, but thunderstorms delayed the work until early Saturday. Workers covered the scaffolding with plastic […]

Despite being one of the hosts of the competition, enthusiasm for the World Cup has yet to fully capture the nation's attention. FIFA defends ticket prices and visa handling ahead of World Cup start
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has defended the organization's handling of ticket prices and visa issues ahead of the 2026 World Cup kickoff, calling for fans to "relax" amid rising criticisms over costs and immigration complications. Speaking in Mexico City on June 10, the eve of the tournament's opening match between Mexico and South Africa at Estadio Azteca, Infantino addressed concerns about soaring ticket prices and visa-related controversies affecting officials and supporters. The FIFA President justified the high ticket prices by citing the tournament's entry price of $60 as the lowest of any American sports in the play-off phases, with an average price below $500, which he said is again the lowest of American sports on average. Infantino defended the US$60 starting ticket price, noting that over six million tickets have been sold. He likened World Cup ticket costs to playoff […]
