Iran in talks with Nigeria for pre World Cup friendly in March

Iran’s national team has opened talks with the Nigeria Football Federation to arrange a pre World Cup friendly match in March as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to reports from Tehran Times, Iran plans to play two warm up games in March, one against Nigeria and another against Costa Rica. Iran, who have been drawn in Group G alongside Belgium, Egypt and New Zealand, are finalising their build up schedule ahead of the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States. Earlier suggestions that they would face Spain and Portugal in friendlies have been revised, with focus now on opponents from Africa and CONCACAF. For Nigeria, the potential fixture depends on FIFA’s ruling on the country’s eligibility protest against DR Congo over the World Cup play off. If FIFA rules in Nigeria’s favour, the Super […]

Onyeka: Why I chose Coventry City ahead of top flight suitors

Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka says a clear project under manager Frank Lampard, the chance to play regularly and family reasons convinced him to join Coventry City instead of other top flight clubs. The 28 year old moved from Brentford to the EFL Championship side on loan until the end of the season, with an option to stay if Coventry win promotion. Onyeka revealed that talks over the transfer began early in January but became serious after a direct phone call with Lampard about two weeks before the window closed. He said their discussion showed him that Coventry is “going in the right direction” and hungry to move up, which matched his ambitions. The midfielder added that staying in England was important for his young family and made Coventry more attractive than overseas options. Reports linked him with interest from […]

‘We’re waiting’ – Nigerians divided as FIFA decides World Cup case

Nigerians have reacted with mixed feelings as they await FIFA’s ruling on the country’s petition against DR Congo over the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The decision, expected on Monday, will determine whether Nigeria’s complaint about player eligibility can revive the Super Eagles’ hopes of reaching the tournament. On social media, some fans say they are hopeful but insist Nigeria should not qualify “through the back door” if DR Congo is punished. Others argue that if rules were broken, FIFA must apply sanctions even if it means overturning results decided on the pitch. Nigeria’s petition centres on claims that several DR Congo players held dual nationalities in violation of Congolese law, which reportedly bans dual citizenship. Officials have alleged that some players were cleared despite holding European passports and being over 21, which they say made the process fraudulent. Reports abroad […]

Looking ahead to the Champions League playoff against Juventus, Buruk admitted the Italian giants are favourites but insisted Galatasaray have enough quality to cause problems. Online Battle Over Gu and Liu at Milan Games

An unexpected controversy is surrounding the Winter Olympics in Milan, unfolding not on the ice or snow, but across social media platforms. At the centre of the debate are two elite athletes: Eileen Gu and Alysa Liu. Both women are American-born athletes of Chinese heritage and among the most accomplished in their disciplines. Yet they have become symbols in a wider political debate shaped by rising tensions between the United States and China. Liu, whose father fled China after participating in the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, competes for the United States. Gu, raised in California by a Chinese mother, chose in 2019 to represent China, citing a desire to inspire young people in Beijing. She went on to win two gold medals and one silver at the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022, cementing her status as a major sports figure […]

Flick says Atletico 4 0 defeat was a lesson for Barca

The La Liga leaders conceded four times in a disastrous first half at the Metropolitano and now face a huge task in the return leg. Flick admitted his side failed to function as a unit before the break. He said the distances between players were too big, Barcelona did not press properly and they allowed Atletico to dominate the game. The German coach described the opening 45 minutes as a big lesson that might still be useful later in the season. He said the team improved in the second half and promised they would fight to turn the tie around in the second leg. Barcelona had a goal from Pau Cubarsi ruled out […]
