Kenya open to 2027 AFCON delay over election tensions

Kenya’s local organising committee says it would welcome a postponement of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations because of likely election related tensions in the region. Committee chair Nicholas Musonye told AFP that shifting the tournament to 2028 would be good for Kenya as the country heads toward general elections in August 2027. Musonye noted that past polls in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda have been marked by volatility and violence, raising concerns about guaranteeing security for a major continental competition. He argued that hosting AFCON during such a period could expose fans and teams to unnecessary risks. His comments came after a report in the UK’s Guardian newspaper suggested AFCON 2027, due to be co hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, might be delayed because the three countries are not yet ready. Icardi later returned to score four goals in seven league games, while Osimhen finished last season with 26 goals in 30 appearances. This season, Icardi has scored 10 goals in 20 league matches and Osimhen has nine in 15, helping Galatasaray push for another Super Lig title. Lookman rues narrow offside in bittersweet La Liga debut

Ademola Lookman says his home La Liga debut for Atletico Madrid was bittersweet after a narrow offside call denied him a dream goal in a 1-0 defeat to Real Betis. The Super Eagles forward had arrived at the Metropolitano on a high following a standout performance in the Copa del Rey. Lookman thought he had equalised just before halftime when he rose to head the ball into the net, but the effort was ruled out for a marginal offside after a review. The decision proved costly as Atletico could not find a way back into the match. Despite receiving a yellow card in the 56th minute for a tactical foul, he remained one of Atletico’s brightest attacking outlets until he was substituted in the 74th minute. His movement and direct play repeatedly troubled the Betis defence, even as the hosts […]
