Andy Robertson will leave Liverpool at the end of the season when his contract expires in the summer, the club has confirmed.
The 32 year old Scotland captain joined Liverpool from Hull City in 2017 for £8 million and has since won two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League among nine trophies at Anfield.
In a farewell video, Robertson said it was the right time to move on, adding that he would look back on his nine years at the club with a big smile.
He was close to leaving in January, when Tottenham Hotspur agreed a deal in principle to sign him, but Liverpool pulled out because they could not recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at Roma.
This season, Robertson has seen his first team chances reduced under head coach Arne Slot following the arrival of Hungarian left back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for £40 million. He has started only six Premier League games.
Despite spending more time on the bench, Robertson said he hopes fans are proud of the left back they have watched perform week in, week out over the years.
He has made 373 appearances for Liverpool and formed a famous full back partnership with Trent Alexander Arnold, who left for Real Madrid last summer. Robertson is sixth on the Premier League assists list since 2017 18 with 56, while Alexander Arnold has 64 and Mohamed Salah leads with 92.
Robertson said Liverpool, its fans and everyone connected to the club mean everything to him and promised to keep giving his all until his final day. He added that others can decide whether he is a club legend, but he is proud to have helped bring trophies back to Anfield.
He said the emotional farewell and chance to fully address supporters will come closer to the end of the season, noting that he is not yet ready for that moment.
Liverpool are currently fifth in the Premier League and face Fulham at Anfield on Saturday after a difficult spell that included a 4 0 FA Cup defeat to Manchester City and a 2 0 Champions League loss to Paris Saint Germain.
News of Robertson’s departure follows the announcement that Mohamed Salah, 33, will also leave the club at the end of the season. Both arrived in the same 2017 transfer window and have been central to Liverpool’s recent success.
