D’Prince Decries Monetised Cyberbullying in Entertainment

Nigerian singer and music executive D’Prince has raised concern over what he describes as the growing monetisation of cyberbullying in the entertainment industry. He said some podcasts and online platforms are now built around paid narratives, controversy, and targeted attacks on public figures. According to him, the trend has turned online harassment into a business model. D’Prince warned that the pressure on creatives is already high, and adding public abuse only makes the situation worse. He said no amount of online attention is worth the mental health, dignity, or emotional well-being of an artist. The music executive also criticised coordinated attacks driven by propaganda, engagement chasing, and paid interests. He said the problem is not limited to entertainment, as it is also affecting wider online spaces. He called for more professionalism, accountability, and ethical standards in journalism and digital media. […]

Why I have a problem with Wizkid – Carter Efe

Nigerian content creator and singer Carter Efe has opened up on why he has a problem with Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, despite describing himself as a long‑time fan. I showed him love, and he didn’t return it.” He recalled how he heavily promoted Wizkid in the past, including releasing the tribute song “Machala,” but claims he never received the acknowledgement or support he expected from the singer. According to him, this perceived snub and a series of online misunderstandings gradually turned admiration into frustration. African music entering a ‘correction phase’, not decline – Tiwa Savage

Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has said African music is not in decline but is instead entering a “correction” or “maturation” phase following several years of explosive global growth. Speaking as a keynote voice at a recent creative conference, she noted that after the initial Afrobeats boom, the industry is now naturally adjusting, filtering out hype and rewarding more structured, long‑term work. Savage explained that some people misread the current slowdown in viral hits or international chart dominance as a slump, when it is actually a normal cycle in which markets stabilise and audiences become more selective. In her view, this phase is healthy because it pushes African artists, labels and managers to focus on quality, professionalism and building sustainable brands rather than chasing quick trends. She pointed out that African music has already proven its global appeal, with Afrobeats and […]

AY reflects on life’s contradictions, says nobody has it all figured out

Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Ayo ‘AY’ Makun has shared a reflective message on life, saying growing older has taught him that nobody truly has everything figured out. The entertainer noted that behind many smiles and displays of success are silent battles and contradictions that most people never see. In a recent post, AY described life as “the biggest contradiction anyone will ever experience,” stressing that people can be winning in some areas while struggling in others. He suggested that social media often makes it seem like others have perfect lives, but in reality everyone is navigating their own mix of uncertainty, pain and progress. According to him, understanding these contradictions should make people more compassionate and less judgmental towards others. He urged his followers to stop putting pressure on themselves to have every step planned out, and instead embrace life […]

Nollywood actress Linda Ejiofor has revealed that she once feared her acting career had stalled, three years before her historic double win at the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). She said she went through a period of deep anxiety when quality roles seemed to dry up and she worried that the industry had moved on from her. According to Ejiofor, she took those concerns to God in prayer, asking specifically for a role that would challenge her and reignite her passion for acting. That prayer was eventually answered with two powerful projects – “The Serpent’s Gift” and “The Herd” – which would later change the trajectory of her career. At the 12th AMVCA, Linda made history as the first actress to win both Best Lead Actress and Best Supporting Actress on the same night. She clinched Best Lead […]

I was stereotyped in my early acting years – Actress Bolaji Ogunmola

Nollywood actress Bolaji Ogunmola has opened up about the challenges she faced in her early years in the movie industry, saying she was heavily stereotyped because of her looks. She revealed that producers and directors often judged her by her dark skin and curvy body, boxing her into a narrow range of roles. According to Ogunmola, many filmmakers preferred light‑skinned actresses for lead characters at the time, while she was frequently considered only for supporting or “side chick” roles. “It was almost like they wanted to put me in a box,” she recalled, noting that her body type was used as an excuse to limit the kind of characters she could play. The actress said these stereotypes made it difficult to show her full range as a performer and slowed her journey to more complex, leading roles. Over time, however, […]
