68th Grammy Awards red carpet: black and white, bare skin and quiet protest

The 68th Grammy Awards red carpet delivered a blend of classic black and white glamour, daring sheer looks and quiet political messaging from some of the world’s biggest music stars. Bad Bunny set the tone in a black Schiaparelli velvet tuxedo with a slightly fitted jacket and a white lapel flower, while Lady Gaga leaned into her edgy Mayhem era in a dramatic high neck black feather gown with bleached platinum hair and brows. K pop star Rosé paired a black mini dress with a billowing cream overlay from Saint Laurent, and Olivia Dean, who won Best New Artist, stunned in a Chanel gown with a full white skirt and black sequinned bodice. 2Baba: Burna Boy ahead of Wizkid, Davido locally and globally

Nigerian music legend 2Baba has hailed Burna Boy as the leading Afrobeats star of the moment, saying he currently operates on a different level from peers like Wizkid and Davido. Speaking on the ‘Mic On’ podcast, 2Baba said he enjoys music from all three but, if forced to choose, he sees Burna Boy as “on the top of the game right now.” He likened judging artists to comparing painters with different styles and stressed that such rankings are ultimately a matter of taste. He explained that his view is based on his understanding of the global music landscape rather than the artists’ personal wealth or private achievements, which he said he cannot measure. According to him, Burna Boy currently tops the chain not just in Nigeria but across Africa and even on the world stage. 2Baba added that there is […]

Music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has dismissed the ongoing comparison between Wizkid and late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti as ridiculous. In a teaser from an upcoming episode of the Mic On podcast, 2Baba said it is disrespectful to Fela’s legacy and unfair to Wizkid to place both men side by side. He noted that each artiste should be judged within the context of his own era, style and impact. The debate intensified after Wizkid responded to criticism from Seun Kuti, Fela’s son, by claiming he is “bigger” than the Afrobeat pioneer. 2Baba stressed that Fela and Wizkid have made unique contributions to Nigerian music that cannot be measured on the same scale. He argued that constant comparisons ignore the different environments in which they created their work and add nothing useful to the conversation. He urged […]
