The London Marathon witnessed a historic breakthrough as Sabastian Sawe delivered an extraordinary performance that redefined marathon running.
The 30-year-old Kenyan claimed victory with a time of 1:59:30, becoming the first athlete to complete a marathon in under two hours during an official competitive race. His time beats the previous record set by Kelvin Kiptum in 2023 (2:00:35) by more than a minute.
Before this, only Eliud Kipchoge had broken the two-hour barrier in 2019, but that performance was achieved under controlled conditions and was not officially recognized. Sawe’s run is therefore the first sub-two-hour marathon in a standard race setting.
Sawe was already on record pace at the halfway mark, passing in 1:00:29. He maintained strong momentum in the second half and made a decisive move in the final 10 kilometers to secure his lead.
Yomif Kejelcha was the only runner able to respond to his surge. In his marathon debut, Kejelcha finished second in 1:59:41, also breaking the two-hour barrier under race conditions.
Jacob Kiplimo, the half marathon world record holder, finished third with a time of 2:00:28, also faster than the previous world record.
Speaking after the race, Sawe expressed his excitement, describing the achievement as a memorable moment and highlighting how strong he felt throughout the final stages of the competition.

Israel-Iran Strikes Test Fragile Middle East Diplomacy
The latest exchange of strikes between Israel and Iran has raised fresh concerns about instability in the Middle East, highlighting the fragile state of regional ceasefires and the challenges facing ongoing diplomatic efforts. The confrontation began after Iran launched missiles at Israel, describing the attack as retaliation for Israeli operations in Beirut. Israel responded by carrying out air strikes inside Iran, marking the first direct attack on Iranian territory since a ceasefire between the two countries was reached in April. The escalation unfolded despite public calls from US President Donald Trump urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to avoid further military action. The episode has renewed questions about Washington's ability to influence Israeli decision-making during a period of heightened regional tensions. Following the missile exchange, Trump said he had contacted Netanyahu and encouraged restraint. However, Israeli military operations proceeded shortly […]

The migrants, most of them young men, were reportedly detained by an armed group after arriving in Libya during the summer of 2025. Several former hostages who have since returned home described months of captivity under harsh conditions. They reported being held in overcrowded cells, suffering physical abuse, and receiving minimal food and medical care. Earlier, Iran's military stated that it had concluded its operations after delivering what it described as a "painful response" to Israeli actions. Tehran warned that any future attacks by Israel, including those carried out in Lebanon, would trigger a stronger retaliation. Iwobi Rues World Cup Miss Ahead of 100th Cap Against Portugal
As he prepares to earn his 100th cap for Nigeria in Wednesday's international friendly against Portugal, Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi says he has no regrets about his decade-long career with the Super Eagles. Iwobi made his senior debut for Nigeria in October 2015 and will become only the fourth Nigerian player to reach 100 international caps, joining Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa. Barring any unexpected twist, Iwobi is expected to join Jospeh Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa as one of only four Nigerians to have played a century of games for the national team when he lines out against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in Leiria. His 99th appearance was during a friendly match against Jordan in Antalya in March, and unfortunately, he was sent off after uncharacteristically reacting to an opponent grabbing him.
