UK authorities have launched an investigation into a suspected arson attack on ambulances owned by a Jewish charity in north London, amid concerns over possible links to groups aligned with Iran.
The incident occurred in Golders Green, where four vehicles belonging to Hatzola were set on fire in the early hours of Monday. The blaze triggered several explosions due to gas canisters inside the ambulances.
According to Mark Rowley, police are examining whether individuals connected to the Iranian state may have been involved. However, he stressed that it is still too early to draw definitive conclusions.
Investigators believe three suspects took part in the attack, which is currently being treated as an antisemitic hate crime rather than an act of terrorism. Authorities are also reviewing an online claim of responsibility from a group with alleged links to Iran.
The group, Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya, has claimed involvement in similar incidents across Europe, though these claims remain unverified. Police say they are pursuing all possible leads.
Speaking at an event organized by the Community Security Trust, Rowley highlighted growing concerns over threats facing Jewish communities. He noted an increase in hostile activities linked to Iran, including surveillance operations and previously disrupted plots.
In response to the attack, security measures in London have been reinforced. Additional police officers have been deployed, alongside increased armed patrols, to protect vulnerable communities.
The case has also drawn political attention. Members of the UK’s Intelligence and Security Committee have warned of a broader pattern of Iran-linked groups targeting dissidents and Jewish communities through indirect channels.
Meanwhile, the UK government has summoned Seyed Ali Mousavi to address concerns over what officials described as destabilizing activities linked to Tehran.
Hatzola, which operates a volunteer-based emergency response service, has been serving the Golders Green community since 1979.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing as they work to determine responsibility and assess any wider security implications.
