NDLEA arrests 93 year old man and doctor in nationwide drug raids

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 93 year old man, a 69 year old medical doctor and several others in a nationwide crackdown on drug cartels. NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi said the intelligence led operations were carried out across multiple states. In Abia State, operatives arrested 93 year old Pa Friday Ahukanna Chigbu at his home, where they recovered 7.7kg of cannabis, also known as skunk. He reportedly admitted that he had used the drug for a long time before turning it into a business. At Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, NDLEA officers arrested an Ivorian, Gohouri Michael, with 1.49kg of cocaine. PTDF shortlists 746 South South applicants for foreign scholarship

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund has shortlisted 746 applicants from the South South for screening under its 2026 2027 Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme. Nationwide, the agency is interviewing between 5885 and 6193 candidates drawn from 38398 applications received for MSc and PhD programmes. The interview exercise, which runs from April 7 to 17 2026, is holding across the six geo political zones, with Port Harcourt serving as the centre for the South South region. Team Lead at the PTDF Port Harcourt Centre, Peter Egheneji, said the scheme is part of the Fund’s mandate to develop capacity for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry through scholarships and bursaries. NNPCL revenue hits N2.68tr in February up 4.24 percent

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited NNPCL says its revenue rose by 4.24 percent in February 2026 to N2.68 trillion, up from N2.57 trillion recorded in January. The figures were contained in NNPCL’s February 2026 monthly report published on the company’s official X handle. According to the report, profit after tax for February stood at N136 billion, a drop of N249 billion compared to the N385 billion profit posted in January. The document noted that the report covered key indicators, including revenue, profit after tax, statutory payments and major strategic initiatives carried out during the month. NNPCL said there was continued growth in natural gas production, while combined crude oil and condensate output averaged 1.51 million barrels per day in February, down from 1.64 million barrels per day in January. FG orders seizure of passports from ex Nigerians

The Federal Government has ordered the Nigeria Immigration Service to immediately withdraw and deactivate passports held by Nigerians who have formally renounced their citizenship. Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji Ojo gave the directive to the NIS, targeting people whose renunciation requests have already been approved by the President. This means they can no longer legally hold or use Nigerian passports once the process is completed. His media aide Alao Babatunde said the order is based on Section 29 subsections 1 and 2 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, which states that any Nigerian of full age can renounce citizenship by making a formal declaration, and that the person ceases to be a citizen once the President registers that declaration. Navy destroys 12 illegal refineries seizes 531500 litres of crude

The Nigerian Navy says it has dismantled 12 illegal refineries and recovered 531500 litres of stolen and illegally refined petroleum products in the first quarter of 2026. The operations were carried out under Operation Delta Sentinel, the new maritime security effort that replaced Operation Delta Sanity II in the Niger Delta. Director of Naval Information Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho said troops also arrested 18 suspects linked to crude oil theft and related maritime crimes between January and March. He explained that the operation includes enhanced surveillance, better intelligence sharing and a quarterly review system to keep pressure on oil thieves. Immigration boss condemns border extortion allegations

The Nigeria Immigration Service has condemned allegations of extortion against its personnel along the Lagos Seme border corridor and taken disciplinary action against senior officers. Comptroller General of Immigration Kemi Nanna Nandap ordered an investigation into the alleged misconduct, describing the behaviour shown in videos and reports as unacceptable and a clear breach of the Service’s core values and standards.
