The Nigeria Immigration Service has condemned allegations of extortion against its personnel along the Lagos Seme border corridor and taken disciplinary action against senior officers.
Comptroller General of Immigration Kemi Nanna Nandap ordered an investigation into the alleged misconduct, describing the behaviour shown in videos and reports as unacceptable and a clear breach of the Service’s core values and standards.
In a statement signed by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, the NIS announced that the Controllers in charge of the affected commands have been temporarily relieved of their duties pending the outcome of the probe.
Nandap directed that all officers involved be identified and that appropriate disciplinary measures be applied without delay once the investigation is concluded.
The Service reassured Nigerians that it remains committed to providing professional, transparent and efficient services at all points of entry and exit and will not tolerate any act that undermines public trust or damages its integrity.
Members of the public were encouraged to continue reporting any misconduct by officers through the Service’s official channels, including its verified X, Instagram and Facebook accounts, as well as its 24 hour contact centre phone lines.
According to the statement, the NIS is strengthening its internal mechanisms to ensure accountability and improve service delivery while staying focused on its mission to facilitate lawful migration. It stressed that the organisation will continue to operate with integrity, discipline and professionalism.
