Liverpool vs Arsenal: Gunners Aim to End 12-Year Anfield Drought in Title Chase

Arsenal travel to Anfield on Sunday seeking their first Premier League win at Liverpool since 2012—a result that could inject momentum into their title ambitions. The Gunners arrive unbeaten after two league matches, boasting the division’s best defensive record, while champions Liverpool have shown early defensive frailties, conceding goals despite their attacking strength. History, though, is against Mikel Arteta’s men. Liverpool remain unbeaten at home in August since 2015 and have scored in 36 consecutive league games, closing in on a club milestone. Arsenal are winless in their last 12 league trips to Anfield, their last victory coming 12 years ago. Arsenal’s preparations are clouded by injuries, with Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Martin Ødegaard, and Gabriel Jesus either out or doubtful. But new £68 million signing Eberechi Eze could make his debut. Arteta praised the midfielder’s “special aura” in training […]

ICRC: Over 23,000 People Still Missing in Nigeria

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says more than 23,659 people remain missing in Nigeria, leaving at least 13,595 families in distress, most of them women bearing the weight of uncertainty and hardship. According to Luka, 68 per cent of those still searching for answers are women, while 59 per cent of the missing were minors at the time of their disappearance. Yobe State alone accounts for about 2,500 cases, the majority from Gujba Local Government Area. “Behind every missing person is a family living in pain, uncertainty, and economic difficulty. The anguish is compounded by legal, administrative, and psychosocial challenges. These families deserve acknowledgement, care and support,” Luka […]

Shea Nut Export Ban Worries Traders as Prices Drop

Nigeria’s recent six-month ban on shea nut exports has sparked concern among industry players, with traders warning of possible contract defaults, even as processors see it as a chance to boost domestic capacity. The policy, announced earlier this month by President Bola Tinubu, is designed to protect local processors, safeguard jobs, and support a value chain where women account for 95% of pickers. However, the ban has already disrupted market activity, with shea nut prices falling by one-third to ₦800,000 per tonne, according to data from Lagos-based consultancy Vestance. “Exports made the market vibrant. Local demand is not as high as local supply,” Vestance CEO, Rildwan Bello, told Bloomberg. “The idea of growing the local industry doesn’t happen overnight. You don’t set up a processing industry within two months. The manner of the implementation leaves a lot to be desired.” […]

She was later confirmed dead at a hospital. Northwest Group Rejects Amnesty Report on Insecurity

The Northwest Democracy Monitoring Group (NDMG) has strongly criticised Amnesty International’s latest report on insecurity in Nigeria, describing it as inaccurate and misleading. In a statement released on Sunday, the group’s chairman, Abubakar Sani, accused Amnesty of presenting “inflated and unsubstantiated” data that could fuel division and unrest in the country. “We categorically challenge the numbers cited in this report, deeming them grossly inflated, misleading, and ultimately inflammatory,” Sani said. He urged Amnesty to reconsider its approach to reporting on Nigeria, noting that such figures undermine efforts to strengthen democracy and stability. Amnesty International had claimed in its recent report that hundreds of people were killed or displaced in violent attacks across Nigeria in the last year. However, the NDMG insisted that its field research across several communities in the Northwest painted a different picture. “Our findings starkly contrast with […]

ASUU Laments FG’s Delay, Demands Tangible Offer

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed frustration over what it described as the Federal Government’s continued inaction on issues affecting its members. The union is currently in discussions with the government over a review of the 2009 agreement, the last binding deal between both parties, which covers the welfare and working conditions of lecturers. On Thursday, the Minister of State for Education, Tunji Alausa, revealed that a technical committee, chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Abel Enitan, was drafting a refined proposal to present to ASUU. “We’ve decided on a counter-proposal to them. We now close by setting up a high-level technical team to clean up our proposal, come with a clean document,” Alausa explained. Reacting to the development, ASUU National President, Chris Piwuna, stressed that the union would only accept a […]
