US Warns Citizens in Nigeria, Defends Visa Revocations

The United States government has defended its recent revocation of valid visas issued to Nigerians, describing the move as a national security measure. This comes as the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria issued a fresh security alert on Tuesday, warning American citizens against unnecessary travel to military and government facilities, particularly in Abuja. Reports earlier in the week revealed that dozens of Nigerians — including students, business professionals, frequent travelers, and families — had their visas revoked without prior notice. Former NNPC spokesperson, Femi Soneye, raised the alarm, saying many affected individuals received formal letters instructing them to submit their passports to the U.S. consulate, only for their visas to be cancelled. In response, a U.S. Embassy spokesperson told BBC News Pidgin that the cancellations are in line with Section 221(i) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), which empowers […]

Sirika: Air Peace, Others Stalled Nigeria Air Project

Former Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Hadi Sirika, has blamed some Nigerian airlines for the failure of the Nigeria Air project. Speaking on Channels TV’s Morning Brief programme, Sirika said Air Peace, Azman Air, and United Nigeria Airlines, under the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), disrupted the partnership between the federal government and Ethiopian Airlines. According to him, the project was designed as a public-private partnership regulated by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) and approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC). Sirika denied reports that over N100 billion was spent on the project. He explained that between 2015 and 2023, a total of N5 billion was budgeted, while only N3 billion was released. Out of that, about one-third went to consultancy services, while the rest covered staffing costs. He argued that Ethiopian Airlines was chosen because no Nigerian […]

Sirika Denies ₦100bn Nigeria Air Scam, Says Only ₦3bn Released

Former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika has dismissed claims that the Nigeria Air project under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration was a ₦100 billion scam, insisting the initiative was conceived with good intentions and due process. Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Tuesday, Sirika described the reports as misleading. “It is a lie that I spent ₦100 billion. The total budget for the national carrier was ₦5 billion, the total amount released was ₦3 billion, and I left the ministry with over ₦1 billion,” he said. The former minister explained that Nigeria Air was structured as a public-private partnership (PPP) and regulated by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), which participated actively in the process and issued necessary certificates.
