2027: Support for Tinubu deepens rift in PDP

Fresh tension has erupted in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as internal divisions widen over whether the opposition party should back President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 or present its own presidential candidate. A faction led by former minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, with the support of Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde, has firmly rejected any plan to adopt Tinubu, insisting it would be “improper” for an opposition party to endorse the flag bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. The rival camp, aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, is more open to supporting Tinubu and currently backs the National Caretaker Committee organising Sunday’s March 29 national convention in Abuja. This has left the PDP effectively split into two blocs, even as reconciliation talks continue and some court cases are expected to be withdrawn if a political […]

The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority has ordered traders and commercial drivers operating along major roads around Iwo Road in Ibadan to vacate the roadside and return to the Iwo Road Bus Terminal. The agency said the directive is aimed at restoring order, easing traffic congestion and improving environmental cleanliness in the area. OYRTMA Chairman, Major Adekoya Adesagba (rtd), gave the order during an enforcement and inspection visit to the terminal on Wednesday. He said the authority received reports that many motorists and traders had abandoned the government built facility and moved back to the roadside, causing renewed traffic problems. Adesagba warned that roadside trading and loading can lead to severe traffic gridlock and accidents. He explained that when traders and vehicles occupy road shoulders and lanes, they reduce space for moving traffic and increase the risk of crashes. […]
