The youngest son of Zimbabwe’s former president Robert Mugabe has pleaded guilty to firearm-related and immigration offences in South Africa.
Bellarmine Mugabe, 28, admitted to pointing a firearm and being in the country illegally during a court appearance in Alexandra, Johannesburg. He was arrested in February after a shooting incident at his residence in the upscale suburb of Hyde Park.
Mugabe has been in custody alongside his co-accused, Tobias Matonhodze, who pleaded guilty to more serious charges including attempted murder, illegal possession of ammunition, defeating the ends of justice, and immigration violations.
Prosecutors initially charged Mugabe with attempted murder, but those charges were later dropped after Matonhodze admitted to firing the gun. According to South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority, it was not immediately clear at the time of arrest who had pulled the trigger.
The incident occurred on 19 February, when police responded to reports of a shooting at Mugabe’s home. A 23-year-old man, believed to be a security guard, was critically injured after being shot while attempting to flee the property. Investigators say the shooting followed a dispute between the individuals involved.
Authorities have yet to recover the firearm used in the incident.
During the court proceedings, lawyers for both men indicated that their clients would be willing to return to Zimbabwe at their own expense if they avoid prison sentences.
Sentencing has been postponed to 24 April, as the court prepares to determine the penalties.
This is not Bellarmine Mugabe’s first legal issue. In recent years, he has faced multiple charges, including assault cases in Zimbabwe. Some of these matters remain unresolved.
He is one of the children of Robert Mugabe and his second wife, Grace Mugabe. The late leader ruled Zimbabwe for nearly four decades before being removed from power in 2017.

Israel-Iran Strikes Test Fragile Middle East Diplomacy
The latest exchange of strikes between Israel and Iran has raised fresh concerns about instability in the Middle East, highlighting the fragile state of regional ceasefires and the challenges facing ongoing diplomatic efforts. The confrontation began after Iran launched missiles at Israel, describing the attack as retaliation for Israeli operations in Beirut. Israel responded by carrying out air strikes inside Iran, marking the first direct attack on Iranian territory since a ceasefire between the two countries was reached in April. The escalation unfolded despite public calls from US President Donald Trump urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to avoid further military action. The episode has renewed questions about Washington's ability to influence Israeli decision-making during a period of heightened regional tensions. Following the missile exchange, Trump said he had contacted Netanyahu and encouraged restraint. However, Israeli military operations proceeded shortly […]

Migrants Allege Kidnapping and Abuse in Libya
More than 300 migrants from Iraq's Kurdistan region were allegedly kidnapped and subjected to severe abuse in Libya while attempting to reach the United Kingdom, according to testimonies from former captives and information gathered during a recent investigation. The migrants, most of them young men, were reportedly detained by an armed group after arriving in Libya during the summer of 2025. Relatives who failed to make prompt payments were allegedly threatened with the removal of their loved ones' organs. Several former hostages who have since returned home described months of captivity under harsh conditions. They reported being held in overcrowded cells, suffering physical abuse, and receiving minimal food and medical care. Some of the released migrants showed scars and injuries they said resulted from torture […]

Iran and Israel Pause Attacks Amid Diplomatic Push
Iran and Israel have announced a halt in their latest military exchanges, easing fears of a broader regional escalation after both sides launched attacks against each other for the first time since a ceasefire agreement reached in April. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that Israel was suspending military operations "for the moment", while stressing that the country's confrontation with Iran and the Lebanese group Hezbollah remains unresolved. Earlier, Iran's military stated that it had concluded its operations after delivering what it described as a "painful response" to Israeli actions. Tehran warned that any future attacks by Israel, including those carried out in Lebanon, would trigger a stronger retaliation. The latest confrontation began after Iran launched missiles toward Israel on Sunday, describing the attack as a response to an Israeli strike in Beirut. Israel retaliated overnight with air […]

UK considers easing work visa rules for Nigerians and other skilled workers
The United Kingdom is reviewing proposals to ease work visa rules for Nigerians and other skilled workers from countries facing tight labour shortages in key sectors such as healthcare, technology and engineering. The proposals under consideration include adjustments to the Immigration Salary List and the introduction of new temporary shortage measures that would provide time-limited access to the Skilled Worker route for occupations below the current graduate-level requirement. These measures would allow certain occupations to be sponsored for Skilled Worker visas even if they fall below RQF Level 6 (UK bachelor's degree level), but with strict conditions that applicants cannot bring dependants to the UK. The UK government has publicly named Nigeria, India and Pakistan among the countries it is monitoring closely for immigration control purposes. The "visa brake" mechanism introduced in March 2026 can refuse certain applications based on […]

Iran says US strikes damage diplomatic efforts to end Middle East conflict
Iran's Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that the United States is undermining ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the Middle East conflict by carrying out additional strikes on targets in southern Iran and sending contradictory messages about the negotiations. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said in a video message carried by Iranian media that the United States is damaging the diplomatic process through contradictory messages, repeated shifts in positions and demands, and repeated violations of the ceasefire. Baghaei stated that any diplomatic process is harmed by the use of force and by resorting to unlawful actions on the ground. He emphasized that the strikes contradict the spirit of ongoing negotiations mediated by international partners. In a separate statement carried by the semi-official Tasnim news agency, Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks and said the country's armed forces have severely targeted US bases […]

Trump announced that he is in the "final stages" of negotiating an agreement with Iran, which he anticipates could be finalized within the next "two to three days," following a recent surge in hostilities.
