CJNG Violence Erupts After El Mencho’s Death

Members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) have launched coordinated attacks across 20 Mexican states following the death of their leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho.” El Mencho died in custody on Sunday shortly after being captured by Mexican special forces. He had been seriously wounded during a firefight between his security detail and military commandos in the town of Tapalpa, Jalisco. Authorities said he died while being transported to Mexico City. At least six of his bodyguards were killed in the operation, and three soldiers were injured. As news of his death spread, CJNG members responded with widespread violence. Roads were blocked with burning vehicles, spikes, and debris. Buses were hijacked and set on fire, and numerous banks, pharmacies, and other local businesses were torched. Thick smoke was seen rising over several towns and cities, including […]

Zelensky Rejects Territorial Concessions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reiterated his firm stance against making territorial concessions to Russia, insisting that Ukraine will not trade land for a ceasefire. Speaking at the government headquarters in Kyiv, Zelensky said that withdrawing from strategically important areas currently contested or partially controlled by Russian forces would amount to abandoning Ukrainian citizens. In his view, such a move would weaken the country internally and create divisions within society. Russia has demanded that Ukraine relinquish control over parts of the Donetsk region, as well as additional areas in the southern regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. Zelensky rejected the idea that these concessions would bring lasting peace, arguing that any pause would simply allow Moscow time to rebuild its military strength before resuming aggression. He stressed that sustained military and economic pressure on Russia remains the only viable path to […]

Mexico’s most wanted drug lord ‘El Mencho’ killed in army operation

Mexican soldiers have killed Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias El Mencho, the country’s most wanted drug lord and leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), during a military operation in Jalisco state. Authorities say he was fatally wounded in a pre dawn assault in the mountain town of Tapalpa and died while being airlifted to Mexico City for treatment. The defence ministry said troops came under heavy fire as they moved in to capture him, leaving several cartel gunmen dead and at least three soldiers injured. Armoured vehicles, rocket launchers and high powered rifles were seized, along with other military grade weapons. El Mencho, believed to be 59, had a US State Department bounty of up to 10–15 million dollars on his head and was accused of flooding the United States with fentanyl, methamphetamine and other hard drugs. His CJNG organisation […]

Trump Sets 15% Global Tariffs After Court Decision

US President Donald Trump has declared he will impose a 15% tariff on imports worldwide, following a Supreme Court decision that struck down his previous global taxes. Initially, Trump had planned to replace the scrapped tariffs with a 10% levy on all goods entering the US. However, on Saturday, he announced via Truth Social that the rate would rise to the maximum permitted under Section 122 of the 1974 Trade Act. This temporary law allows tariffs to remain for up to five months before requiring congressional approval. The original 10% tariffs were scheduled to begin on 24 February. It is unclear if the 15% rate will start at the same time. Countries like the UK and Australia, which had agreed to 10% import deals, face uncertainty under the new rate. Trump criticized the Supreme Court’s ruling as “ridiculous” and “anti-American.” […]

Pakistan Strikes Kill Dozens in Afghanistan

Pakistan carried out multiple overnight air strikes across Afghanistan, killing at least 18 people, including women and children, according to the Taliban. Islamabad said the strikes targeted seven alleged militant camps near the border, following recent suicide bombings in Pakistan. The Afghan government condemned the attacks, saying civilian homes and a religious school were hit. The Taliban confirmed that strikes affected Nangarhar and Paktika provinces. In Girdi Kas village, only five members of a 23-person family survived the attacks, according to a local resident. A Taliban spokesperson confirmed 18 deaths in the family. Other areas, including Bermal and Urgun districts, were also hit, but no casualties were reported there as targeted buildings were empty. Pakistan’s Ministry of Information described the operation as “intelligence-based selective targeting” against members of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and affiliates of ISIS-Khorasan. The strikes were said to be […]

Half of Project 2025 Policies Already Implemented

As Donald Trump prepares for his State of the Union address, many of the ultra-conservative policies outlined in Project 2025 are already in effect. The 900-page blueprint, developed by the Heritage Foundation before the 2024 election, had previously been publicly disavowed by Trump. Despite his earlier distancing, analysts say roughly half of Project 2025’s proposals have been implemented during Trump’s first year back in the White House. Measures include a crackdown on immigration, ending federal diversity and inclusion programs, halting billions in foreign aid, and cutting thousands of federal jobs. Project 2025’s centerpiece, the Mandate for Leadership, laid out strategies to expand presidential power and reshape federal agencies. Experts note it not only suggested policies but also provided detailed legal and administrative methods for execution. Early moves by the Trump administration reflected these plans, including reorganizing the United States Agency […]

She had joined the force at the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in the Kherson region. The National Police described her as a young officer dedicated to her duty.

Hezbollah vows to keep fighting after deadly Israeli airstrike in Lebanon

Hezbollah has warned that it has no choice but to continue its armed resistance after an Israeli airstrike on eastern Lebanon killed eight of its fighters. The group said Israeli forces targeted its command centres in the Bekaa region, while separate strikes in the south hit areas linked to the Palestinian group Hamas. Lebanon’s health ministry reported that 10 people were killed in the east and two in the south during the latest round of attacks. Hezbollah official Mahmud Qamati described the Bekaa raid as a new massacre and fresh aggression against Lebanon. Qamati, speaking on the Al Manar TV channel, said the movement had no other option left to defend its fighters and the country except resistance. He insisted that ongoing Israeli raids leave the group with little room for political compromise. The strikes came days after Lebanon’s government […]

UK Considers Removing Prince Andrew from Succession

The UK government is examining possible legislation to remove Prince Andrew from the royal line of succession, a move that would permanently bar him from becoming monarch. Defence Minister Luke Pollard said the proposal was “the right thing to do”, though he stressed that any formal step should follow the conclusion of the ongoing police investigation. Andrew, the brother of King Charles III, is currently eighth in line to the throne despite having stepped back from public duties and losing several royal titles amid longstanding controversy over his association with Jeffrey Epstein. He denies wrongdoing. Pollard confirmed that ministers have been working with Buckingham Palace on the matter, describing it as an issue that could attract cross-party backing once legal processes are complete. Chief Secretary to the Treasury James Murray cautioned that the situation is legally complex and should not […]
