The Ministry of the Interior, in partnership with the Ghana Police Service, has provided financial assistance to families affected by the recent fire outbreak at the Accra Central Police Barracks.
The support package was announced by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak during a visit by Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on June 5, 2026, to assess the impact of the incident and interact with affected residents.
According to the Minister, each affected family has received GH₵15,000 to help address immediate needs following the devastating fire, including the replacement of clothing, household items and other essential belongings lost during the incident.
Mr. Muntaka explained that the intervention forms part of ongoing efforts by government and security agencies to provide relief and support to victims as they begin the recovery process.
“We were able to extend, together with the Police Service, about GH₵15,000 to each affected family to enable them buy clothes and other essentials,” he stated.
The Minister further revealed that the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has contributed GH₵120,000 to support relief operations being coordinated by the Interior Ministry and the Police Service.
The additional funding is expected to strengthen assistance programmes and help address the needs of residents displaced by the fire.
According to Mr. Muntaka, the distribution of the financial support was guided by an assessment framework developed to ensure fairness and equitable allocation among all affected households.
The fire outbreak occurred on the night of June 3, 2026, causing extensive damage to several residential structures within the Accra Central Police Barracks and displacing numerous families.
The incident prompted a coordinated emergency response involving government institutions, security agencies and local authorities to provide immediate assistance and evaluate the extent of the destruction.
During her visit, Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang received briefings on the damage caused by the fire and ongoing efforts to support affected residents.
Authorities have assured victims that additional support measures will continue as assessments progress and recovery efforts are strengthened to help families rebuild their lives.

Nigeria and Morocco have agreed to deepen cooperation on agricultural intelligence and food security through a new technology driven partnership. A high level Nigerian delegation has been sent to Morocco to finalise the arrangement, which will support the development of Nigeria’s first National Agro-Productivity System. The initiative is designed to provide real time data on crop location, land availability, yield projections and food security threats across the country. Xenophobia Uganda repatriates 1102 citizens from South Africa
Uganda has repatriated more than 1100 of its citizens from South Africa as part of an emergency evacuation prompted by rising xenophobic violence and anti migrant protests.
