Parliamentary Committee Visits Gnani and Kukuo Camps, Pledges Support for Witchcraft Victims
The Parliamentary Select Committee on Human Rights, in collaboration with several civil society organisations (CSOs), has visited the Gnani Camp in the Northern Region to assess living conditions and document the situation of residents. The visit formed part of a three-day fact-finding mission to alleged witches’ camps, ahead of the passage of the Criminal Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2025, also known as the Anti-Witchcraft Accusations Bill. Alhassan, leader of the Gnani Camp, briefed the delegation on challenges faced by residents, citing stigma, limited resources, and lack of access to education and healthcare as the most pressing concerns. He explained that the camp provides refuge for individuals accused of witchcraft who face rejection and threats in their home communities.
