Mampong MCE hails NDC on galamsey fight progress

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Yakubu Issifu, has commended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for its early steps in addressing illegal mining, widely known as galamsey. Speaking on Nhyira FM’s morning show, Mr. Issifu argued that it is too early to criticize the government after only nine months in office. He stressed that some water bodies in the Ashanti Region have already shown signs of recovery under the NDC administration. “Some of our water bodies have regained their natural state in just a few months,” he said, urging patience and support for the government’s policies. Founder’s Day holiday set for Monday, Sept 22

The Ministry of the Interior has declared Monday, September 22, 2025, a statutory public holiday to mark Founder’s Day. In a statement signed by the Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the ministry explained that since this year’s celebration falls on Sunday, September 21, it will be observed on the following Monday in line with Ghana’s public holiday laws. The statement further noted that President John Dramani Mahama, acting under Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), as amended, has signed an Executive Instrument to formalise the additional holiday. Founder’s Day is dedicated to honouring Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and celebrating the contributions of the country’s founding fathers. Citizens are encouraged to reflect on Ghana’s independence journey and observe the day with respect.

ARCC issues directives for Queenmother’s burial rites

The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) has urged residents of the Greater Kumasi metropolis to strictly adhere to directives from the Manhyia Palace as the late Queenmother, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, is laid to rest on Thursday, September 18, 2025. According to the directives, schools and markets will be closed on the day. Pharmacies, banks, fuel stations, restaurants, and transport operators have been exempted from the restrictions on movement. Utility companies and essential service providers, including the Electricity Company of Ghana, Ghana Water Company Limited, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, and Health Service personnel, have also been exempted. DVLA clears 440,000 driver’s licence backlog

The Minister for Transport, Joseph Nikpe Bukari, has announced that the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has successfully cleared a backlog of more than 440,000 unprinted driver’s licence cards. According to the Minister, as of December 2024 the DVLA had accumulated 440,000 pending licences, but all have now been printed and dispatched to DVLA offices across the country for collection. “As at December 2024, the DVLA had a backlog of 440,000 unprinted driver licence cards. Currently, all those backlog cards have been printed and dispatched to the various DVLA offices for collection,” Mr. Bukari confirmed. He further revealed that an additional 26,045 licence cards are in the final stages of lamination and will soon be delivered. This development is expected to ease frustrations among applicants who have experienced lengthy delays in acquiring their licences.

Michael Aidoo gives 120 students full scholarships

Council of State member and Western North NDC Regional Chairman, Michael Aidoo, has awarded full scholarships to 120 brilliant but needy students in the Western North Region to study at Kaaf University in the Gomoa East District. Mahama launches road project for 166 constituencies

President John Dramani Mahama has launched a nationwide road initiative that will see 166 constituencies benefit from 40 kilometres of road construction each over the next four years. The President made this known during the sod-cutting ceremony for the Dawhenya-Afienya-Dodowa Road Project in Accra on Tuesday, September 16. He explained that the selected constituencies were identified as having some of the most deteriorated road networks in the country. According to him, each constituency will receive 10 kilometres of roads, drains, and pavements every year for four years, amounting to 40 kilometres in total. FDA to inspect school food vendors in Central Region

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Central Region has announced plans to inspect the certifications of food vendors in schools to ensure that pupils are served safe and healthy meals. Regional Director of the FDA, Francisca Anokye, said the initiative is aimed at preventing uncertified vendors from operating in schools, a move she believes will protect children from foodborne illnesses. She revealed this during a food safety training programme held in Cape Coast for School Health Education Promoters (SHEP).
