€9m art heist hits Italian museum near Parma

A major art theft has shaken Italy after several high-value masterpieces were stolen in a rapid and highly coordinated museum break-in. According to police, four masked men carried out the robbery on 22 March at the Magnani Rocca Foundation, located near Parma. The attackers forced their way into the villa, known as the “Villa dei Capolavori,” and targeted artworks displayed in the French Room. Within just three minutes, the group escaped with three valuable paintings: Les Poissons by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Still Life with Cherries by Paul Cézanne, and Odalisque on the Terrace by Henri Matisse. The museum’s alarm system was triggered during the operation, forcing the thieves to flee before they could take additional works. They reportedly escaped by climbing over a perimeter fence. Authorities estimate the combined value of the stolen paintings at around €9 million, with Renoir’s Les […]

Israel restores church access after Palm Sunday row

Israel’s leadership has reversed course after a controversial incident involving access to one of Christianity’s holiest sites during a sensitive religious period. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa will now be granted “full and immediate access” to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, following earlier restrictions that prevented him from holding Palm Sunday Mass. The decision to block the cardinal had sparked widespread criticism internationally. The site, believed to mark the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, holds deep significance for Christians worldwide. According to Israeli authorities, the restriction was initially imposed due to security concerns. Netanyahu stated that the Old City of Jerusalem had been under threat from missile attacks linked to Iran, and limiting access to religious sites was intended to protect worshippers. However, the move drew sharp reactions. Mike Huckabee described the […]

Australian police have shot dead a man believed to be Dezi Freeman, ending a seven-month manhunt following the قتل of two police officers in 2025. According to authorities in the state of Victoria, the 56-year-old suspect was killed on Monday after a prolonged standoff at a rural property in the north-east of the state. Police had surrounded a structure described as a makeshift dwelling early in the morning. After several hours of negotiation attempts, the suspect exited the building and was shot. Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush said officers had intended to arrest the suspect peacefully but were forced to act when he appeared armed. No officers were injured during the operation, which will be subject to a standard investigation. Authorities believe the man is Freeman, though formal identification is still pending.

Controverse : l’UA soutient Macky Sall à l’ONU

CAF General Secretary Resigns Amid AFCON Dispute

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is facing a leadership change as its general secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba, announced his resignation. His departure comes during a turbulent period for African football, marked by the decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title and the last-minute postponement of the women’s tournament. In a statement, Mosengo-Omba said he was leaving with a clear conscience. "Having dispelled the suspicions cast on me, I can retire peacefully and leave CAF stronger than before," he wrote. At 66, Mosengo-Omba had exceeded the organization’s mandatory retirement age of 63, drawing criticism. He also faced allegations from staff about fostering a difficult work environment, though an internal investigation cleared him of wrongdoing. Originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo and also a Swiss national, he became CAF general secretary in March 2021. Reuters […]
