Artemis II Mission Marks Historic Moon Journey

For 10 days, four astronauts aboard NASA’s Artemis II mission pushed the boundaries of human spaceflight, travelling farther from Earth than any crew before them on a historic journey to the Moon and back. From liftoff at Kennedy Space Center to their dramatic return, the mission captured global attention. The launch itself was a powerful spectacle—blinding light, thunderous sound, and intense vibrations—as the massive rocket carried the crew into space at extraordinary speed. Inside the Orion capsule, astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen lived and worked in tight quarters roughly the size of a minibus. Despite the limited space and lack of privacy, they conducted scientific experiments, rehearsed procedures, and maintained strict routines throughout the journey. The mission also highlighted the realities of space travel. Even basic systems, such as the spacecraft’s toilet, faced technical challenges, […]

Hungary votes in high-stakes election

Voters in Hungary are turning out in large numbers for a crucial election that could end the long rule of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán after 16 years in power. Early turnout figures suggest strong mobilisation, with participation significantly higher than in the previous election. Polling stations remain open until the evening, with results expected later the same day. The main challenger, Péter Magyar, leads the newly formed Tisza party, created after his split from Orbán’s ruling Fidesz. After casting his vote in Budapest, he pledged to strengthen Hungary’s role within the European Union and NATO, while tackling corruption. Orbán, seeking another term, expressed confidence in his chances, stating that he was determined to win and had not underestimated his opponent. The election campaign has been tense, with both sides accusing each other of using pressure tactics. Orbán warned that the […]

Fuel protests disrupt Ireland supply chain

Fuel tankers have regained entry to a major oil refinery in Ireland after several days of disruption caused by ongoing protests. Earlier on Saturday, Irish police, An Garda Síochána, moved in to clear the blockade at the Whitegate Refinery in County Cork. Officers used pepper spray and were supported by the Irish Defence Forces to remove tractors that had been obstructing access. This allowed fuel trucks to resume operations at the site. The protests, now in their fifth day, have significantly disrupted fuel distribution across the country. Hundreds of petrol stations have already run dry, and industry representatives warn the situation could worsen if blockades continue. The group Fuels for Ireland has cautioned that up to two-thirds of filling stations could run out of fuel if access to storage depots is not fully restored. While access has been re-established at […]

Melania Trump reignites Epstein controversy

Melania Trump’s appearance at the White House on Thursday was expected to be routine. Standing at the podium where President Donald Trump had recently addressed the nation, there was little indication that her remarks would spark major controversy. However, she immediately drew attention with a strong opening statement, firmly rejecting allegations linking her to convicted financier Jeffrey Epstein. She called the claims “false” and demanded they be put to rest. In her prepared remarks, the First Lady insisted she had no personal or professional relationship with Epstein or his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. She also denied being introduced to her husband through Epstein and said she had no knowledge of his criminal activities. Melania Trump concluded her statement by urging Congress to hold public hearings that would allow survivors of Epstein’s abuse to testify openly, saying it was essential to uncover […]

Nigeria jails nearly 400 over militant links

Nearly 400 individuals in Nigeria have been convicted for their involvement with militant Islamist groups after a series of large-scale court proceedings. Those found guilty received prison sentences ranging from five years to life imprisonment. Authorities linked the convictions to affiliations with Boko Haram and its offshoot, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). These trials come amid growing concerns over insecurity in the country, as the government faces increasing pressure to restore stability. Nigerian security forces continue to confront a wide range of threats, including extremist groups, separatist movements, and kidnapping networks. The Boko Haram insurgency, which began in 2009 in the northeast, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and forced more than two million people to flee their homes, according to humanitarian organisations. Amid the worsening security environment, the United States recently advised its citizens to […]

Artemis II crew returns after record space journey

The crew of NASA’s Artemis II mission has safely returned to Earth after re-entering the atmosphere at speeds of up to 40,000 km/h, completing a historic journey that took them farther into space than any humans before. Their mission ended with a successful splashdown off the coast of California. During the flight, the astronauts traveled more than 4,000 miles beyond the previous human distance record set during the Apollo 13 mission in 1970, marking a new milestone in deep space exploration. Immediate medical checks and recovery Following their return, the crew—Reid Wiseman, Christina Koch, Victor Glover and Jeremy Hansen—underwent initial medical examinations aboard the recovery vessel before being transported to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston for further evaluation. Although the mission lasted only about 10 days, time spent in microgravity still affects the human body. Reduced gravity leads to […]
