JAMB Sets Up Special Committee to Probe High-Tech Exam Fraud

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has inaugurated a 23-member special committee to investigate sophisticated cases of examination malpractice recorded during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Speaking at the inauguration in Abuja on Monday, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, expressed concern over the rise of technology-driven cheating schemes. He revealed that results of 6,458 candidates are still under investigation for alleged high-tech fraud. “This year, we came across strange infractions, and we felt the need to broaden our resources. Examination malpractice has gone beyond traditional methods into technologically sophisticated forms,” Oloyede said. According to him, some of the infractions included biometric and identity fraud, image blending, albinism falsification, finger pairing, and attempts to breach CBT centres’ Local Area Networks. He warned that unchecked malpractice could harm multiple sectors and damage Nigeria’s reputation. While 141 cases of conventional […]

He recalled a similar collapse earlier this year that killed two people and injured several others, lamenting the lack of accountability for operators and site owners. In his reaction, Ahanaotu expressed sympathy over the deaths but defended his decision to sublet the lease, saying it […]

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria has announced that all visa applicants must now disclose their social media usernames and handles used within the past five years as part of the application process. According to the Mission, applicants are required to provide the details on the DS-160 visa application form. It stressed that failure to include the information could result in visa denial and possible ineligibility for future applications. “Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true before signing and submitting. Gov Mbah: Why We’re Honouring Football Legend Christian Chukwu

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has described the late football legend, Christian Chukwu, as a pioneer who laid the foundation for the growth of Nigerian football and a symbol of national unity. Speaking at a novelty match between Ex-Rangers and Enugu All Stars at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, the governor—represented by the Commissioner for Labour and Employment, Dr. Felix Nnamani—said Chukwu’s legacy would continue to be celebrated in Enugu and across the nation. “Chukwu and his teammates achieved so much for Nigeria at a time when footballers received little or no reward. Yet, they gave us honour and laid the foundation for modern football in Nigeria,” he said. The governor also recalled how Enugu Rangers, under Chukwu’s leadership, played a key role in […]

IPOB Lawyer: Federal Government Has No Legal Basis to Detain Nnamdi Kanu

A member of the legal team representing Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has insisted that the Federal Government lacks any legal justification for his continued detention. Barrister Onyedikachi Ifedi, in a strongly worded statement on Sunday, dismissed recent media publications describing IPOB’s push for Kanu’s acquittal as “political theatre,” calling them “government-sponsored propaganda.” He argued that Kanu’s arrest in Kenya in June 2021 amounted to extraordinary rendition, a process prohibited under both Nigerian and international law. Citing the Court of Appeal’s October 2022 judgment, Ifedi noted that the court had declared Kanu’s rendition unlawful and struck out the charges. He criticized the Supreme Court’s December 2023 ruling, which reinstated the case, as a “violation of settled legal principles.” The lawyer further contended that the government is prosecuting Kanu under the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act of […]
