Johnny Drille: My Music Never Truly Belonged in Church

Nigerian singer and songwriter Johnny Drille has opened up about his relationship with the church and how his musical path evolved beyond traditional gospel music. Speaking on the CreativiTEA podcast, the “How Are You (My Friend)” hitmaker explained that while his faith in God remains strong, he never felt his music fit into the church setting. “For me, I love God. I’m very involved in church, but I never really felt my music belonged there. Every now and then, I get invited to sing in churches, which is kind of interesting,” he said. Signed under Mavin Records, Johnny Drille noted that he occasionally faces criticism from members of the Christian community for performing in church. However, he maintained that his songs promote positive and uplifting messages. “I’ve gotten some backlash from Christians when I perform in churches. But at the […]

LPG Retailers Not to Blame for Gas Price Hike, Says LPGAR

The Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers Association of Nigeria (LPGAR) has said that gas retailers are not responsible for the current increase in the price and scarcity of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), also known as cooking gas. In a statement issued on Saturday in Lagos, the Chairman of LPGAR under the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Mr. Ayobami Olarinoye, said the rising cost of LPG is caused by supply challenges, not manipulation by retailers. “The recent scarcity and price spike have brought hardship to many Nigerian homes and businesses. We understand this pain, but retailers should not be blamed,” Olarinoye said. His statement followed claims by the president of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM), who accused retailers of contributing to the price surge. Olarinoye described the allegation as “unfair and misleading,” explaining that […]

Beijing Residents Dismiss Trump’s Tariff Threats

People in Beijing have reacted with calm and defiance to US President Donald Trump’s latest threat to impose steep new tariffs on Chinese imports. Speaking to AFP on Saturday, residents said they were not worried about the move and viewed it as another unpredictable gesture from the former US leader. Trump announced on Friday that the United States would impose an additional 100 percent tariff on all Chinese imports starting November 1, or earlier. He also cast doubt on a possible meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The new tariffs, he said, were a response to Beijing’s export restrictions on rare-earth materials, which are crucial for high-tech industries. Chinese authorities have not yet issued an official response. The ministries of foreign affairs and commerce declined to comment when approached by AFP. “I felt nothing when I saw the news,” said […]

They urged colleagues across the country to “refuse orders to shoot” and “close the gates” of their camps until further notice. The soldiers also warned others not to follow commands from superiors who might order violence against protesters, adding, “Those who give such orders will not care for our families if we die.” It remains unclear how many soldiers have joined […]

Trump Imposes 100% Tariff on China, Threatens to Scrap Xi Summit

WASHINGTON, Oct 11 — U.S. President Donald Trump announced a new 100% tariff on Chinese goods and warned he may cancel his planned meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, escalating tensions between the world’s two largest economies. The decision, which Trump said takes effect on November 1, also includes export controls on all critical U.S. software. He said the measures respond to what he called China’s “extraordinarily aggressive” actions, including export restrictions on rare earth minerals. “It is impossible to believe that China would have taken such an action, but they have, and the rest is history,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account. Financial markets reacted sharply to the announcement. The Nasdaq fell 3.6% and the S&P 500 dropped 2.7% as investors feared a renewed trade war. Currently, Chinese goods face 30% U.S. tariffs, while Beijing has imposed 10% […]
