Almajiri commission says projects are constituency interventions
The National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education has defended the controversial projects listed in its 2026 budget. The commission said the projects are constituency interventions and were not meant to replace its core education mandate. It explained that such items are often added during the budget process by lawmakers. The debate began after reports showed that the commission had budgeted billions of naira for road construction and other projects outside its main responsibility. These included roads, solar street lights, ambulances and dental equipment in some states. The commission was created to help reduce the number of out of school children and support Almajiri education. Critics say the new projects do not align with that role and could weaken the agency’s main mission. Supporters of the budget description argue that constituency projects are common in the system and are […]

PFIPC scandal Babachir Lawal questions budget code
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal has raised fresh concerns over the scandal involving the so called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council PFIPC. Lawal said the case suggests a big racket and possible institutional compromise within the system. He questioned how an agency that was allegedly created by one person could be assigned a budget code and funding if proper checks were followed. He said agencies should have a legal basis before they are allowed to receive public money. According to him the executive normally proposes a new agency before the Attorney General and the National Assembly review and approve it. Lawal also asked how the PFIPC budget line passed through the usual approval process if the body did not legally exist. He noted that ministries departments and agencies normally defend their budgets during legislative hearings […]

Blatter questions political power after Trump phone call
Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has questioned the role of political influence in football after reports that a phone call from Donald Trump helped trigger a review of a red card decision involving Folarin Balogun. Blatter said football decisions should be based on rules and evidence rather than political pressure. He argued that the game must remain independent from outside influence. His comments came after FIFA faced criticism over the reversal of a disciplinary decision involving the United States striker. The move has sparked debate about whether political leaders should have any role in football matters. Blatter warned that football should not become a place where political power can change sporting decisions. He said such matters should be handled by officials and independent disciplinary bodies. The development has drawn attention because of the sensitivity around FIFA’s independence and the wider […]

Why Tinubu trusted only Osinbajo Aregbesola and three others
A former aide to President Bola Tinubu has said that Tinubu placed members of his cabinet in different groups based on the level of trust he had in them. According to the aide, only a few people were among Tinubu’s closest and most trusted allies during his time as governor of Lagos State. The group reportedly included Yemi Osinbajo, Rauf Aregbesola and three others. The claim suggests that Tinubu relied on a small circle of trusted partners for key political and administrative decisions. It also shows how close relationships shaped his leadership style during that period. The remarks have drawn attention because they highlight the long political history between Tinubu and some of his former associates. Over the years, some of those relationships have remained strong while others have become strained. The story also reflects the wider politics around loyalty […]

Israel names first resident ambassador to Slovenia
Israel has appointed Ruth Cohen‑Dar as its first resident ambassador to Slovenia following the decision to open an embassy in Ljubljana. The move ends a long period in which Israel managed relations with Slovenia through a non‑resident envoy based elsewhere. The appointment was approved unanimously by Israel’s cabinet and reflects a warming of diplomatic ties after last year’s change of government in Slovenia. Relations had cooled under the previous Slovenian administration, but improved after a new government took office and signaled closer cooperation. Ruth Cohen‑Dar previously served as Israel’s non‑resident ambassador to Slovenia and Malta. As a resident ambassador she will be based in Ljubljana and lead the newly established embassy, handling diplomatic, political and consular responsibilities on the ground. Israel’s foreign ministry said the embassy opening and the resident ambassador appointment follow a reassessment of bilateral relations and aim […]
