Tinubu Hails GEIL for Pioneering New Crude Export Terminal

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Green Energy International Limited (GEIL) for setting a new benchmark in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector with the successful commissioning of its crude oil export terminal in Otakikpo, Rivers State. The terminal, the first built by a Nigerian company and the only one constructed in the country in over five decades, marks a major milestone in Nigeria’s quest to boost crude oil production and enhance local participation in the energy industry. According to the President, the new export facility will provide an efficient evacuation route for marginal and stranded oil fields across the Niger Delta region. This, he said, will unlock billions of barrels of reserves, drive investment, and create significant economic value — key priorities of his administration. Speaking through the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, President Tinubu […]

No Alternative to Trump’s Peace Initiative, Says Palestinian Ambassador Hammouri

The Ambassador of Palestine to Nigeria, Muhannad Hammouri, has declared that there is no alternative to the United States–brokered peace deal between Israel and Hamas, describing the initiative as the only viable path to end the two-year conflict in Gaza. Speaking in an interview with The PUNCH, Hammouri said the peace agreement—initiated by US President Donald Trump—offers the best chance to stop the bloodshed and restore stability in the region. “The peace deal announced by President Trump between Israel and Hamas marked a significant development in the two-year-old conflict,” Hammouri said. “It includes a prisoner-hostage swap and a partial withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.” The deal, known as the Trump Initiative, outlines a 20-point framework featuring a complete ceasefire, the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, and the phased withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza. According […]

Madagascar President Warns of Attempted Power Seizure

Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina has warned that an “attempt to seize power illegally and by force” is underway, following reports that a group of soldiers joined anti-government protests in the capital, Antananarivo. The warning came on Sunday, a day after soldiers stationed on the outskirts of the city called on security forces to “join forces” and “refuse orders to shoot” at protesters, denouncing the violent crackdown on ongoing demonstrations. The protests, led mostly by young people, have continued for over two weeks, sparked by frustration over power and water shortages across the country. On Saturday, soldiers clashed with gendarmes outside their barracks before riding into Antananarivo on army vehicles to join thousands of demonstrators gathered at the symbolic Place du 13 Mai in front of the city hall. The crowd reportedly cheered their arrival and chanted calls for President Rajoelina […]

NAFDAC, NNMDA Partner to Validate Safety and Efficacy of Herbal Medicines

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has partnered with the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA) to conduct clinical trials aimed at scientifically proving the safety and effectiveness of Nigeria’s herbal medicines. NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, announced the partnership in Lagos, describing it as a vital step toward giving global credibility to the country’s indigenous natural remedies. She explained that NAFDAC is determined to move beyond merely listing herbal products to granting full registration for those verified through scientific validation. “We know herbal medicine works, but it’s important to confirm, through clinical trials, how safely it can be used,” Adeyeye said. “Below a certain dose, it may heal; above that, it could harm the liver, kidney, or other organs. The fact that something is natural doesn’t mean it is completely safe.” She noted that […]

China Condemns US ‘Double Standards’ Over New Tariff Threat

China has accused the United States of applying “double standards” after President Donald Trump announced plans to impose an additional 100 percent tariff on all Chinese imports starting November 1. In a statement released on Sunday, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce described Trump’s remarks as “a typical example of double standards,” criticizing Washington’s approach to trade relations. Trump had announced on Friday that the new tariffs would be imposed in response to what he called China’s “extraordinarily aggressive” export restrictions on rare-earth minerals — materials crucial for global technology and manufacturing industries. He also hinted that his planned meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping later this month might be canceled. Beijing said the United States has intensified economic pressure on China since September, warning that such actions have damaged mutual trust and disrupted trade negotiations between both nations.
