Mikel Obi tips Arsenal to win UEFA Champions League

Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has backed Arsenal to win both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League this season, claiming Mikel Arteta’s squad is the strongest in world football. Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, Mikel, who won two Premier League titles and a Champions League crown with Chelsea, praised Arsenal’s balance, depth, and mentality under Arteta. “This season, I think it’s Arsenal’s to lose,” Mikel said. “The squad and the depth they have are frightening. They have the best squad, not just in England but in world football right now. “Sometimes it’s not the starting eleven that wins you games, it’s who comes off the bench. We’ve seen Arsenal — Martinelli coming off the bench to win games, Eze, Merino, and Havertz injured — it’s frightening. Arteta knows this is Arsenal’s title to lose.” Arsenal […]

Ghana jails Nigerian man 10 years for trafficking sister, nine others

A Ghanaian court has sentenced a 29-year-old Nigerian man, Chukwudi Nwachukwu, to 10 years in prison for trafficking his younger sister and nine other girls from Nigeria to Ghana for prostitution. The victims, aged between 15 and 18, were deceived with promises of restaurant jobs but were forced into sex work upon arrival in Ghana. One of the victims was Nwachukwu’s own sister. Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Isaac Babayi told the court that the case began when Chief Calistus Eloziepuwa, a member of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) in Ghana, reported the incident and helped rescue the victims. According to Babayi, on June 7, 2024, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the Ghana Police Service received a report from the Nmai Dzorn Police Station that Nwachukwu had been arrested and the victims freed. Maresca slams Delap for ‘stupid’ red card as Chelsea edge Wolves 4-3

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca criticised striker Liam Delap for a “stupid” and “embarrassing” red card during the club’s 4-3 League Cup fourth-round victory over Wolves on Wednesday. Delap, making his first appearance since August following a hamstring injury, was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in just seven minutes as a substitute. His first booking came for wrestling Yerson Mosquera to the ground, while the second followed a reckless aerial challenge on Emmanuel Agbadou. The dismissal marked Chelsea’s sixth red card in just nine games this season — a trend that left Maresca visibly frustrated. “For today we have a very stupid red card, that was completely unnecessary,” Maresca said after the match. “It’s embarrassing — two yellow cards in seven minutes. Both could have been avoided. “After the first yellow card I told him four or five times […]

Trump orders immediate nuclear weapons testing amid China Russia tensions

US President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he has ordered the Pentagon to resume nuclear weapons testing to match China and Russia’s military capabilities. The decision came just minutes before his scheduled summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea. The move follows Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claim on Wednesday that Moscow successfully tested a nuclear-powered underwater drone, in defiance of US warnings. “Because of other countries’ testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis,” Trump posted on social media, directly referencing Russia and China. Trump said the United States has more nuclear weapons than any other country, crediting his administration for what he called “a complete update and renovation of existing weapons.” He added that “Russia is second, and China is a distant third, but will be […]
