Nollywood is losing its sense of unity says Jaiye Kuti

Article arrow_drop_down

Nollywood actress Jaiye Kuti has expressed concern that the Nigerian film industry is losing its sense of unity.

She said many actors and filmmakers now act as though everything is fine even when they are facing the same problems. According to her, the spirit of support that should hold the industry together is getting weaker.

Kuti said her concern became stronger after she spoke publicly about her movie being removed from several cinemas. She said she expected support from colleagues but did not receive it.

The actress explained that film production and cinema distribution now require huge financial commitment. She noted that many people do not understand the pressure producers face when trying to recover their investment.

She also said some people appear supportive on social media but do not show the same concern when real help is needed. In her view, this has made many industry relationships feel shallow.

Kuti said the lack of unity in Nollywood is affecting the way colleagues relate with one another. She added that many actors are facing the same challenges but are unwilling to speak openly or stand together.

Her comments reflect growing concerns about support, loyalty and teamwork within the Nigerian movie industry.
