Israel has appointed Ruth Cohen‑Dar as its first resident ambassador to Slovenia following the decision to open an embassy in Ljubljana. The move ends a long period in which Israel managed relations with Slovenia through a non‑resident envoy based elsewhere.
The appointment was approved unanimously by Israel’s cabinet and reflects a warming of diplomatic ties after last year’s change of government in Slovenia. Ruth Cohen‑Dar previously served as Israel’s non‑resident ambassador to Slovenia and Malta. As a resident ambassador she will be based in Ljubljana and lead the newly established embassy, handling diplomatic, political and consular responsibilities on the ground.
Israel’s foreign ministry said the embassy opening and the resident ambassador appointment follow a reassessment of bilateral relations and aim to strengthen political dialogue and practical cooperation. Officials highlighted that a permanent diplomatic presence will make communication and coordination easier for both countries.
