Nigerian Catholic Priest Convicted of Sexual Assault in US

Father Anthony Odiong, a Nigerian Catholic priest, has been found guilty on all counts of sexual assault in a Texas court, exposing him to a possible life sentence in prison. A jury in McLennan County, Waco, Texas, convicted the former priest on three felony counts of sexual assault after several women accused him of sexual and financial abuse. Under Texas law, it is a crime for clergy to engage in sexual activity with individuals who depend on them emotionally as spiritual advisers. Odiong served as a priest at St. Peter Catholic Student Center in Waco, Texas, and at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West, Texas, from 2007 to 2012. He later served in Luling, Louisiana, from around 2015 to 2023, where he is now suspended from ministry. The charges relate to alleged actions in Texas more than 15 […]

Dangote Refinery Reduces Petrol Price to N1,250/Litre

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the gantry price of petrol by N25 to N1,250 per litre from N1,275 per litre, representing a two per cent decrease. The 650,000-barrels-per-day refinery also adjusted the price of diesel, which was reduced to N1,700 per litre. The price cuts come as traders across Nigeria's major markets have been closely monitoring the refinery's pricing decisions, which influence fuel prices nationwide. Petrol at the Dangote Refinery gantry had previously been sold at N1,275 per litre before the latest reduction. The move is expected to ease pressure on motorists and fuel marketers, who have been grappling with fluctuating petroleum product prices in recent months. The reduction marks the latest development in Nigeria's downstream petroleum sector since the removal of the fuel subsidy and the commencement of large-scale refining operations at the Dangote Refinery, Africa's largest single-train refinery. MASSOB Hails Compliance With Biafra Day Sit-at-Home

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has praised the high compliance with the sit-at-home order declared across the South-East to mark Biafra Remembrance Day on May 30. MASSOB said residents of Biafra land overwhelmingly obeyed the directive, which saw towns, villages, and cities in the South-East come to a complete standstill as people stayed indoors in honour of fallen Biafra heroes and heroines of the 1967–1970 civil war. The group, which earlier declared May 30, 2026, as a sit-at-home exercise in the spirit of “true Biafranism and brotherhood among Biafra agitators and Biafrans in general,” described the peaceful compliance as a demonstration of unity and respect for the Biafra struggle. MASSOB stressed that it did not molest, compel, or intimidate anybody to observe the stay-at-home exercise, adding that its members were instructed to respect […]

Biafra Day: Umuahia Shuts Down as Residents Observe Sit-at-Home

Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, came to a complete standstill on May 30 as residents observed a total sit-at-home order to mark Biafra Remembrance Day (Biafra Day). The streets of Umuahia were virtually deserted, with shops, markets, motor parks, banks, and schools all shut down in full compliance with the sit-at-home directive issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in honour of fallen Biafra heroes and heroines. Only occasional movements of tricycles and a few vehicles were sighted on the empty roads. Some youths were seen playing soccer on deserted streets, while other residents gathered at the entrances of their premises, discussing national developments. No security agents were spotted parading the streets, and there were no reported clashes between security forces and IPOB supporters at the time of reporting. The city maintained a gloomy, quiet atmosphere, far from […]

Trump Insists on Red Lines as Iran Deal Remains Elusive

US President Donald Trump will only approve a peace deal with Iran if it fully meets Washington’s conditions, a White House official has said, as questions swirl over the state of negotiations to end the Middle East war. The White House had earlier indicated that Trump was close to a decision on a possible agreement, but Tehran has maintained there is still “no final agreement” on ending the conflict. A senior Iranian source told Reuters that a political understanding had been reached but not yet finalised, and that current discussions do not include nuclear-related issues, in sharp contrast to Washington’s public stance. “President Trump will only make a deal that is good for America and satisfies his red lines,” a White House official said after a nearly two-hour Situation Room meeting focused on the war and diplomatic efforts. The official […]

US Sanctions Iranian Buyers of Sensitive Military Technology

The United States has announced sanctions against an Iran-linked network accused of buying sensitive American military technology for Tehran’s defence sector in violation of US sanctions. According to US officials, the network “impersonated and defrauded” dozens of American technology companies out of millions of dollars’ worth of advanced equipment, including spectrum analyzers, network security devices, encryption hardware and software, non-linear junction detectors, and other security detection systems. The equipment was allegedly diverted to Iran’s Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics and affiliated entities. The State Department said the procurement ring used fake websites that mimicked real US firms and relied on intermediaries in Dubai and other jurisdictions to receive shipments before smuggling the technology into Iran. The network was led by Iran-based national Ali Majd Sepehr, who, through his company Sorena Hushmand Samaneh Company, is accused of creating false […]
