Father Anthony Odiong, a Nigerian Catholic priest, has been found guilty on all counts of sexual assault in a Texas court, exposing him to a possible life sentence in prison.
A jury in McLennan County, Waco, Texas, convicted the former priest on three felony counts of sexual assault after several women accused him of sexual and financial abuse. Under Texas law, it is a crime for clergy to engage in sexual activity with individuals who depend on them emotionally as spiritual advisers.
Odiong served as a priest at St. Peter Catholic Student Center in Waco, Texas, and at St. Mary’s Church of the Assumption in West, Texas, from 2007 to 2012. He later served in Luling, Louisiana, from around 2015 to 2023, where he is now suspended from ministry.
The charges relate to alleged actions in Texas more than 15 years ago, between 2009 and 2011, when prosecutors say he exploited vulnerable women by abusing his spiritual authority. At least eight women have come forward with similar stories of abuse, claiming he groped, sexually assaulted, or financially abused them, including one woman who sought his counsel over marriage troubles.
During the investigation, police also found Odiong in possession of child pornography when he was arrested in Ave Maria, Florida, in July 2024. He was not indicted on that charge but could face it in the future. He is currently being held at McLennan County Jail on a $2.5 million bond.
If convicted on the most serious charge, a first-degree felony, Odiong could face life in prison. He faces up to 20 years in prison for each second-degree sexual assault conviction. The Archdiocese stated that once it became aware of allegations of criminal activity, it reported him to law enforcement and removed him from ministry.

Why Filmmakers Can’t Use Afrobeats Songs by Dammy Twitch
Music video director and filmmaker Dammy Twitch has explained why Nollywood producers can no longer freely use Afrobeats songs in their movies, citing artists selling their music rights to distribution companies as the primary reason. The reason is that most of the distribution companies Nigerian musicians use are based in the US or the UK since they don't have the infrastructure to handle rights management in Nigeria. Once artists sell their songs, filmmakers cannot afford the licensing fees required to use them in films. Dammy Twitch stated: "I think because people have sold their song already, so it gets to a point where I want to use this song for my film, for example, I can't afford it." He noted that many artists have already sold their music rights to distribution companies, making them inaccessible or prohibitively expensive for Nollywood […]

AY Makun Calls for National Unity in Fight Against Insecurity
Popular Nigerian comedian, actor, and filmmaker Ayo Makun, widely known as AY Makun, has called for national unity in the fight against Nigeria's escalating insecurity, describing the country as turning into a "crime scene" amid rising bandit attacks and kidnappings. AY Makun argued that financial ties to political interests can weaken accountability in Nigeria's security and governance system. He emphasized that Nigerians must unite across ethnic, religious, and political lines to demand real action from the government and security agencies to end the crisis. The comedian's comments come amid recent attacks involving school kidnappings, killings of security personnel, and increased bandit activities across Nigeria. He wrote that bandits now storm churches to kill and abduct Christians, while children are kidnapped from schools and even a Brigadier General was shot dead. AY lamented that "every day brings fresh chaos yet the […]

Arsenal’s Mosquera, Havertz Start Champions League Final Against PSG
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has started Cristhian Mosquera at right-back and Kai Havertz up front in bold selection choices for the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain at Budapest's Puskás Arena on May 30, 2026. Mosquera, the 19-year-old Spanish centre-back, starts at right-back instead of the fit Jurrien Timber, who has been out since March with a groin injury but was declared fit and named on the bench. Arteta opted for Mosquera on the right of defence to face PSG winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, arguably the tournament's top performer. Arsenal's confirmed starting XI is: David Raya (goalkeeper); Cristhian Mosquera, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, Piero Hincapié (defence); Declan Rice, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Martin Ødegaard (midfield); Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka (front line). The biggest decision in attack was choosing Kai Havertz over big-money striker Viktor Gyökeres. Havertz, who scored Chelsea's only […]

Dangote Refinery Reduces Petrol Price to N1,250/Litre
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the gantry price of petrol by N25 to N1,250 per litre from N1,275 per litre, representing a two per cent decrease. The 650,000-barrels-per-day refinery also adjusted the price of diesel, which was reduced to N1,700 per litre. The price cuts come as traders across Nigeria's major markets have been closely monitoring the refinery's pricing decisions, which influence fuel prices nationwide. Petrol at the Dangote Refinery gantry had previously been sold at N1,275 per litre before the latest reduction. The move is expected to ease pressure on motorists and fuel marketers, who have been grappling with fluctuating petroleum product prices in recent months. The reduction marks the latest development in Nigeria's downstream petroleum sector since the removal of the fuel subsidy and the commencement of large-scale refining operations at the Dangote Refinery, Africa's largest single-train refinery. MASSOB Hails Compliance With Biafra Day Sit-at-Home
The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has praised the high compliance with the sit-at-home order declared across the South-East to mark Biafra Remembrance Day on May 30. MASSOB said residents of Biafra land overwhelmingly obeyed the directive, which saw towns, villages, and cities in the South-East come to a complete standstill as people stayed indoors in honour of fallen Biafra heroes and heroines of the 1967–1970 civil war. The group, which earlier declared May 30, 2026, as a sit-at-home exercise in the spirit of “true Biafranism and brotherhood among Biafra agitators and Biafrans in general,” described the peaceful compliance as a demonstration of unity and respect for the Biafra struggle. MASSOB stressed that it did not molest, compel, or intimidate anybody to observe the stay-at-home exercise, adding that its members were instructed to respect […]
