Ghana to import fuel from Dangote refinery

The Government of Ghana has pledged to start importing petroleum products from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos, Nigeria, as part of plans to strengthen energy security and cut costs. Ghana’s Energy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, gave the assurance during a visit to the 650,000 barrels per day refinery, where he inspected facilities and held talks with the management team. He said Accra is committed to making the refinery a key source of fuel supply once commercial terms are finalised. Prempeh noted that buying refined products from Nigeria is expected to be cheaper than relying on distant imports from Europe. Senate passes Electoral Act bill, drops plan for mandatory e‑result transmission

The Senate has passed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026 but declined to make electronic transmission of election results mandatory for the 2027 polls. Lawmakers rejected a proposed change to Clause 60 (3), which would have required presiding officers of the Independent National Electoral Commission to transmit polling unit results to the IReV portal in real time after completing Form EC8A. Instead, they retained the existing 2022 provision that results should be transferred “in a manner as prescribed by the Commission.” Senate President Godswill Akpabio insisted the chamber did not remove electronic transmission from the law. He said the Senate only chose to keep the wording already in the 2022 Act, which INEC used in the last general elections. The Senate also rejected a proposal to increase the penalty for buying or selling Permanent Voter Cards from two years to […]

Russia says Iran uranium offer still open

Russia says its offer to take Iran’s enriched uranium abroad as part of a wider deal to ease United States concerns is still available. Foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters in Moscow that Russia had previously proposed exporting Iran’s enriched uranium reserves to Russian territory. She said this initiative remains on the table but that it is for Iran to decide whether to accept it. Zakharova stressed that only Iran has the right to decide what to do with its uranium stockpile. She added that Tehran alone can choose whether to send the material abroad and, if so, to which country. The proposal is part of broader diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme and address Washington’s concerns about the level and volume of uranium enrichment. No decision by Iran on the renewed offer has been announced.
