The Government of Ghana has pledged to start importing petroleum products from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos, Nigeria, as part of plans to strengthen energy security and cut costs.
Ghana’s Energy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, gave the assurance during a visit to the 650,000 barrels per day refinery, where he inspected facilities and held talks with the management team. He said Accra is committed to making the refinery a key source of fuel supply once commercial terms are finalised.
Prempeh noted that buying refined products from Nigeria is expected to be cheaper than relying on distant imports from Europe. He added that shorter shipping distances and regional cooperation should help reduce freight charges and ease pressure on Ghana’s foreign reserves.
Officials in both countries say the move will deepen economic ties between Ghana and Nigeria and support West Africa’s broader goal of increasing intra African trade in energy products. The Dangote refinery has been positioned as a major regional hub capable of supplying petrol, diesel and aviation fuel across the continent.
Ghana’s National Petroleum Authority had earlier indicated interest in sourcing products from Dangote once the plant reached stable operations, saying this would reduce the country’s monthly fuel import bill.

NMA rejects court ruling giving FCCPC power to probe medical negligence
The Nigerian Medical Association has rejected a Federal High Court ruling that affirmed the powers of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to investigate complaints of medical negligence. Court rejects FCCPC’s fresh bid to halt airtime lending
A Federal High Court has rejected a fresh attempt by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to stop airtime lending services run through major telecom networks. The ruling preserves an earlier interim injunction that protects airtime and data credit providers while a substantive suit on new lending rules is being heard. The case centres on the FCCPC’s 2025 Digital, Electronic, Online or Non Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations, which the commission wants to fully enforce across digital lenders, including Airtime Credit Service providers. Ghana pulls out of US aid talks over data demand
Ghana has withdrawn from talks on a new United States health aid deal after objecting to US demands for access to sensitive personal health data. The move is a fresh setback for President Donald Trump’s push to link parts of US foreign aid to wider data sharing agreements with partner countries. Mali: Fresh clashes erupt between Tuareg rebels, government forces in Kidal
Fresh fighting has broken out in the strategic northern Malian city of Kidal between Tuareg rebels and government forces backed by Russian mercenaries. Tuareg rebels from the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) said clashes resumed on Sunday as they tried to “drive out the last Russian fighters” who had taken refuge in a military camp in the city.
